(Zoom Video sessions available now.) My ideal client: A creative, motivated, and intelligent professional with an obsession, usually drugs/alcohol and/or sex. A higher percentage of creative people struggle with addiction, because they just don't know when to quit! Creatives frequently have low self-esteem, often despite proven success. Using cognitive (CBT) techniques and psychodynamic methods (how events from the past affect the present) I use a pragmatic, individualized approach. I include solution-focused and music/art therapy to help the client gain insight and put the insight to work to achieve realistic goals.
In recovery from alcohol/prescription meds since 1998, and as a professional writer/musician before embracing psychotherapy, I understand the monumental task of sustained recovery from alcohol, drugs, and sex, plus the struggles of the creative mind, particularly low self-esteem and the scary spectre of the blank page.
I recommend many (not just 12-step) support groups that serve as an adjunct to my work, but I also work with harm reduction and replacement therapy/MAT. Part of my practice has been with Pasadena Recovery Center ("Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab"), and I have worked extensively with successful musicians, actors, executives, designers, and artists.
