Seeking therapy is often a reflection of significant discomfort in your life. Maybe you feel that your emotions have become difficult to manage, or perhaps you feel numb to them. You might feel stuck in your relationships or job, or perhaps you have experienced a significant event and are having difficulty adjusting to or making sense of it. These are just a few of the many situations that therapy can help you navigate by taking a curious approach to your thoughts and feelings and deepening your understanding of yourself, your relationships, and your mind.

In the midst of life and its constant changes, it is comforting, at times, to have someone to talk with. I enjoy being a light and ear for others during more challenging times. The needs we have as individuals change as we grow and it can be tough to identify the lessons that motivate us to press forward. As we and our environments continue to shift, at times we can get stuck. It takes courage to acknowledge our own reflection and seek what we need. While attempting to balance various life developments, emotionally/mentally, conquering goals may seem bleak or unattainable. Whatever those desires or stressors, I will sit with you.

My role as an art therapist is to create space for individuals to explore intersecting aspects of their identities and to be witnessed holistically without judgment. Art has the capacity to communicate, heal, and empower individuals on their path towards mental wellness. This is why art has always been my medium of self-discovery and healing as I believe in its ability to transcend words and reach into the depths.

I imagine you are here because you're not really feeling okay. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelming sadness or worry, maybe you’re struggling through constant conflict with your spouse and a hoping to regain connection and peace with one another. Maybe you’re unsure of how to move forward after the loss of a loved one. Or maybe you’re struggling to parent and connect with your child the way you hoped. Whatever brings you here, I will be a safe place for you and your family.

My ideal client would be prepared to incorporate new ideas and habits into their lives in order to create movement where they might feel stuck. They may have difficulty with self-confidence, self-efficacy, communication, anxiety or depression. They know they need a change but don't quite know, or trust, how to get there on their own. Their needs might be having a space to encounter their true identity and begin to accept themselves wholly. Their goal might be to be more accepting and forgiving, to let go of what or who they have been in the past that is incongruent with their visualized identity.

Choosing a therapist that you connect with is often the most important ingredient to successful therapy. It can be daunting to find the right fit and scary to expose yourself. To foster our therapeutic relationship, I will strive to create a safe space to explore your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and experiences. The core of my relational style is authentic and warm, and I will adapt to your personality and pace, so you feel supported rather than pushed. I seek to assist individuals, couples, and families in achieving deeper, more fulfilled relationships and connections with both themselves and the people around them.

Accepting New Clients! If you have a great rapport with your therapist, you will have great counseling. The fact is that if you like your therapist, you will have good results. I love what I do and love the people I work with. I am not an advocate of aloofness and I establish counseling from your perspective and worldview! Basically, I love and respect people and although I have knowledge about psychology, I use language and terms you understand and can relate to.

My focus is within psychodynamic concepts, allowing us to address life experiences, that can be both defined and understood through metaphor. In therapy, we are solidifying your understanding of what an experience may symbolize for you. My goal is to provide therapy that facilitates a deeper understanding of your experience. I view therapy as a medium that can lead to long-lasting change, as a treatment, utilized as an exploration of insight and compassionate engagement, to help you identify what obstacles are getting in the way of your personal and professional growth.

Good therapy has the power to turn our deepest struggles into opportunities for lifelong growth and happiness. The therapeutic relationship offers a safe and trusting space that is all one’s own; a unique place to express and notice feelings more clearly and to respond with more equanimity and mindfulness. In time, this ability will lead to a greater sense of wellbeing, gratitude and self-love.

I am currently accepting clients. Life doesn't come with instruction manuals, and yet, there's this unspoken assumption that we should just know what to do. Sometimes, we fall into unhelpful patterns, and we struggle to change them. My passion is in creating a non-judgemental space dedicated to unpacking, understanding, and relating to your emotions, thoughts, and values in a new way. Our meetings may be just a fraction of your week, but they can be a catalyst for lasting change.

As human beings we are hard-wired for connection. When we find ourselves disconnected from the very people we hold most dear it is very painful and that pain can ripple into every facet of our lives. At Emotional and Relationship Health Associates we understand this and are here to help. As a therapy group, we specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment based therapy model that is evidenced-based and seen as the gold standard for healing relationships. It gets to the root of the problem without judging or taking sides and can bring lasting change that transforms lives and relationships.

How can I find a therapist in Reno?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
