At this this time during the Covid crisis I am offering telehealth sessions and continuing to see clients in the office. Now would be a good time for those clients who are not able to travel. They could have sessions via their cell phone. I work well with all populations of client especially children and teens. I want to assist them in the life challenges they are struggling with. Counseling is collaborative and I look forward to working with you to change your circumstances.

The core of my practice is assisting individuals and families to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life with success and purpose. To provide guidance on supporting those with mental health symptoms, behavioral and emotional disorders and trauma to be able to thrive. To help identify negative communication patterns and strengthen communication with others. I provide an assortment of parenting ideas to help families live together with a better understanding and appreciation of each other. I draw from Dr. Garry Landreth, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy, Dr. Fay & Dr. Cline, Love & Logic, and Dr. Phelan with 1-2-3 Magic.

I offer individual counseling, mindfulness training, EMDR, and life coaching through video chatting. Common focus areas include: personal growth and development, career issues, lifestyle issues, assertive communication, self-esteem, ADHD, anger management, persistent mental health problems, addictions, trauma, and disability. I enjoy positive psychology and prefer to focus on solutions, strengths, and assets. I feel it is important to view each person from their unique cultural experience with a nonjudgmental stance. I believe in the biopsychosocial model and understand health and functioning as being systemic in nature.

Most of us aren't really sure why we think what we do about ourselves, where our insecurities have come from, and sometimes whether or not anything in our lives, now or previously, really rises to the level of trauma. I've seen many clients who don't understand how they can be so anxious, so critical of themselves, or so depressed. After all, they have a loving family and a good support system, so it "doesn't really make sense to complain". Yet, culture, imperfect parents having imperfect moments, misunderstood messages and so many other things leave us with imperfect views of ourselves.

Depression, anxiety and addiction are often compatriots. They feed off each other and create a sense of hopelessness. My name is Denniese Dysart and my goal is to provide a casual and welcoming atmosphere while assisting you to find your own path in personal discovery and wellness. On this course I will help you identify and cope more effectively with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which may disrupt your ability to function effectively. A very important aspect of counseling is the relationship that builds between the client and the counselor. This may be the only time and place where you can take front and center stage, be actually “heard”, and be in the presence of someone who is non-judgmental.

Life gets to us sometimes. Sometimes we need help. I'll be your coach, support, and cheerleader through this tough time in your life, and can provide you with the good constructive feedback that you need. I find that seeking to answer the common question of "why am I doing this?" is very helpful and freeing for people, and reminds them that they can in fact make changes to get their lives back on track.
