My name is Gayle Nissen, and I am an LCSW in Virginia. I have had my license since 2002 and worked for my local county as a therapist for 32 years. I have a lot of experience with different mental health and addiction issues to help people with their growth and change. My approach to therapy is client-centered, working on issues you bring to the table. I also work with teens and life transition issues. I am passionate about my work, which will come across in our sessions.
I will first build rapport with you to make you feel comfortable. I am trained in DBT which is working with high emotional responses and bringing the emotional responses lower in order to be able to function better. I work on mindfulness and communication skills. I also have a background in CBT.
In the first session, I will listen to you and your issues. We will go over assessments together and have an open dialogue. I would like you to work on the goals and objectives of your choice, writing up a treatment plan with goals that are attainable and sustainable.
