I have particular expertise addressing LGBT topics, men's issues, topics of identity and oppression, as well as supporting clients with relationship and interpersonal style concerns.
My PhD training as a counseling psychologist affords me flexibility to support multiple life concerns, and at the root of my work is the belief that relationships are capable of healing. I build strong alliances with those whom I serve in order to best meet client directed goals and foster sustained change. I adhere to evidence-based practices in psychology, and research evidence strongly supports the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance. Everyone has a unique lens through which they see the world and I strive to see the world as my clients do to provide the best care.

Because I belong to the intersection or religious/ and LGBTQ experiences I understand the complex issues surrounding this intersection.
Therapy can be a great place to learn to unravel difficulties, learn new tools, and thrive no matter what life brings to the table. I help late teens and adults address various experiences such as grief and loss, depression, anxiety, faith transitions, and particularly the intersection of religious/spiritual and LGBTQ experiences. I am gay and LDS which grants me a unique perspective in this space. This helps remove barriers of fear and misunderstanding early so we can get down to the nitty gritty. Regardless of your life experiences, I honor all parts of you and want to help you get to a place of peace, wholeness, and flourishing.

My approach is an affirmative space. I help many navigate the difficult journey of their faith crises and revolutions. This is a very hard time to navigate and the universe is calling us to heal. I don't judge ANY of my clients and I meet them where they are at to work on their goals. I have special trainings and certifications with Brainspotting a brain based trauma approach; working with children through play therapy, couples therapy & LGBTQ+ relationships and issues. I also have extensive experience wading through the struggles of stepfamily and blended family issues. You deserve a supportive space to manage life.

I will never claim to be an expert in anything, but I have lived and clinical experience with autism, the LGBTQ+ community, and faith transitions.
My ideal client is willing to talk about and feel their feelings and the way they affect their lives. Not all of my clients can talk about their feelings quite yet, or even identify them. That’s okay. Some are absolutely terrified to acknowledge or address feelings, and that’s okay too. It’s only when clients are unwilling that I personally run into a wall with my work.

Lesbian and gay people are faced every day with difficult intersections between sexual diversity; trauma; religion, faith and spirituality; conflicting cultural and relational demands; and sometimes issues of race. Stress, hypervigilance, shame, anxiety, depression and mental confusion are to us like water is to the fish. But we have an amazing ability to heal, grow, and thrive when given the right support.

My training is in understanding relational, social, and trans-generational systems, so I look at client concerns holistically.
I believe that humans are wired for meaning, connection, and belonging. Most of our struggles in life are intimately tied to how we experience our relationships—including with ourselves—and how we find purpose. Through a unique integration of Western and Eastern principles of human thriving, I support individuals and couples seeking emotional, sexual, and spiritual wholeness, as well as deeper healing and intimacy in their relationships with themselves and others. As awareness precedes power, my goal is to help clients increase in self-understanding so they feel empowered to then address personal difficulties on their own terms.

Counseling has always been that one unique ability of mine that I felt was a higher calling. The encouragement I get from watching clients meet major milestones continues to increase my passion as a therapist. I am a firm believer that there is no shame in asking for help. Regardless of how major or minor your struggle may be, having someone to talk to makes a massive difference. As a therapist, I strive to provide a nonjudgmental environment that allows clients to feel safe and secure. I work with anxiety, depression, loss, and trauma, in addition to youth, couples, LGBTQ+, and individuals.

You are enough, you belong, and you matter! Specializing in anxiety, trauma, low self-worth & shame, and neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism), I offer a strength-based approach and am LGBTQIA+ affirming.
It can be confusing to understand why you may feel a certain way, especially when feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Oftentimes symptoms of anxiety, trauma, and traits of living with ADHD or Autism can overlap, making it difficult to know how to move forward from the hurt you're experiencing. Feelings of low self-worth and shame creep in and can oftentimes lead to problems in life and relationships. Whether you are seeking relief from ongoing stress, hurt, trauma, anxiety, or you just need extra support through a difficult time, my goal is for you to feel empowered and find the quality of life you are looking for.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
