I work a lot with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ clients.
As they say, the only thing permanent in this world is change. Change, like people, comes in different shapes and sizes. It could be as simple as changing clothes, to more complex ones like a break up, death, or coming out. My goal is to help you manage and deal with changes in your life. By providing you with a safe and comfortable environment and my use of various therapeutic techniques, my hope is that you will feel supported, heard, understood, and obtain the necessary coping skills to help you through this journey called life.

As a queer, first-generation immigrant of Southeast Asian descent, my passion is working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent populations, immigrants, and people living in marginalized bodies.
Are you often self-critical, with a negative or harsh voice in your head? Do you experience shame, “not good enough-ness”, and unworthiness? Maybe you’ve had these feelings and thoughts for a long time, learned from past traumatic experiences or an unsupportive environment you grew up in. These experiences are painful and can stop you from living a more rewarding life. If this sounds familiar, I understand and I’m here to help. I specialize in working with anxiety, complex trauma, self-criticism, relationship difficulties, life transitions, sexuality, and gender.

Do you feel stuck? Many people begin psychotherapy because they feel something is "off". They are dissatisfied, but unclear about what they want; they feel that "something is missing," but they're not sure what it is. Others begin psychotherapy because they find themselves repeatedly cycling through unhealthy relationship patterns and they want to change. Additionally, we all have traumas and woundings within us, to varying degrees. Psychotherapy can help untangle these knots and move you through suffering and pain towards greater health, integration, wholeness, vitality, and well-being.

If you find yourself struggling to navigate life in what feels like a messy, complicated, relentless world, reaching out for help can feel overwhelming. I strive to create a space where you can fully explore and process your thoughts, feelings and experiences, without judgement. I believe that therapy looks different for everyone, and it can even vary session to session. Most importantly, it is a collaborative process that works best when you feel truly seen and heard.

You experience enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, or behaving and interpersonal relationships as significant sources of problems and emotional pain. Pieces of your identity – gender, sexuality, spirituality, ethnicity – seem inherently conflicted. You walk the world with unique gifts and deep sensibilities, yet in times of distress, you find yourself fleeing, fighting, appeasing, or beating yourself up. You've searched far and wide for a therapist who specializes in people with exactly your problem and met nothing but disappointment. The truth is that there is no person with exactly your problem, but you don't have to be alone.

I applaud you on taking this important step in caring for yourself! Seeking help is not easy and requires hope and courage. As a psychologist for the past 17+ years, I have been privileged to share in the journey of many adults and couples as they navigate their emotions, identities and relationships. I am also a 1.5 generation immigrant (Filipina) and parent, interracially married, and comfortable with complexity and nuance. I know you are more than your roles, relationships and jobs. Together we will explore how to identify what may be getting in the way of you living a life of truth and authenticity based on your core values.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
