As a member of the LGBTQ or kink community you worry that your therapist might not “get it.” You are wondering if you can talk openly about your life and experiences. Maybe, you work in a setting (law enforcement, military, religious community...etc), or are part of a family where coming out or expressing your true self is scary as hell. I’ve been there and can relate! I am a gay man, served on Active Duty, and worked with adolescents and first responders for over nine years. I am a therapist AND I go to therapy. I believe in the power of therapy but I know the vulnerability required to reach out and schedule that first visit!

As an LGBTQ+ therapist, I enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients and allies.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed or lost? Maybe you feel unfulfilled in your relationships, career, or other key areas of your life. If you are ready to explore these parts of yourself and interrupt patterns that are no longer serving you, I can help with that. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process which allows us to look at the areas that are causing distress, and identify ways to adjust your thoughts and behaviors to create positive change. I provide therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself openly and authentically.

My focus areas include anxiety, depression, LGBTQ, sports performance, self-esteem, and relationships.
Thanks for visiting my profile. I realize you may be going through a tough time. Perhaps you’re experiencing a significant transition, a loss, or feelings you’re not sure how to deal with. This can be scary and difficult. Sometimes the hardest part is acknowledging the need for help. I have hope for you. I believe we all have the internal resources to heal and grow, and I would like to help you uncover this healing power within yourself.

Through my personal and professional life experience I have been fortunate enough to support members of the LGBTQIA+ Community. A community I continue to learn how to navigate personally. I aim to create an affirming space for folx in search of identity exploration, building a chosen family, and learning “where to go next?” I have grown my network of support in Philadelphia to provide the best referral source for those in search of gender affirming healthcare and organizations. Also, I am Certified in EXRP through CBI to support alleviation in distress with OCD. I receive consultation through Rogers and CBI.

I value creating a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients and encourage a non-judgmental space, where you can speak freely about what is occurring and can truly understand that you are not alone. As Ram Dass stated, “We’re all just walking each other home.” I have experience working with adolescences, adults, couples, and families. I work with an array of ages, with a focus on depression, anxiety, behavioral and familial issues, relationship/couple issues, LGBTQ+ issues, grief/loss, PTSD, chronic health issues, and severe and persistent mental illness.

My clinical focus is in working with children from ages 4 - 18 as well as young adults in college, but I am open to working with everyone! I also specialize in gender affirming care and LGBTQ+ affirmation.
Asking for help is a big step that shows bravery courage and the dedication you have to yourself and the want to feel better. My goal is to make sure I can provide you with the tools and support that empowers you to reach your personal goals, and find peace, happiness, and healing. Coming from a social work background, I acknowledge that there are outside obstacles that we may not be able to control inside of the therapy room, but I can assure you that I will be your biggest advocate and provide support and action when applicable, and empower and lift your voice so that you can become your number 1 advocate as well.

Outside of clinical issues, I also treat individuals coping with sexual & gender concerns (LGBTQIA+).
Many of the people I work with struggle making and following through with positive change in their lives, experiencing unsuccessful attempts, a lack of confidence, and feelings of being "stuck". As a holistic health practitioner, I help people examine their Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual selves and take action in areas that are out of balance. I have a clinical background in treating mental health disorders and specialties in addictive behavior, integrative nutrition and treating mind-body disorders.

I also have experience working with clients in the LGBTQIA+ community and survivors of intimate partner violence.
This thing called "Life" is so challenging, isn’t it? I became a therapist hoping that no one would have to power through it alone. My goal is to teach clients coping skills to balance between validating these hard moments while compassionately working toward meaningful change. I am honored to be able to support you as we create your life worth living.

History of working with LGBTQ+ clients, young adult, life changes/transitions, and school related stressors.
Intense emotions can interfere with our ability to think logically. Psychotherapy, skills-based treatment, and psychoeducation can be beneficial for regaining a sense of control over our emotions. There is significant strength in emotional vulnerability and therapy is judgement free. I encourage you to take the next step toward emotional and mental wellness.

Lately, I've been working with individuals suffering from a multitude of grief and loss issues, relationship troubles, those who identify as LGBTQIA+ or questioning and college students.
Ready to dive deeper into yourself and just be you? As a licensed professional counselor, I believe understanding and loving your authentic self is the key to happiness and stability in life. I’ve been practicing for over two decades and work with adults 18-99+ who want to understand themselves better and live their lives to the fullest. My solution-focused approach combines left-brained schema theory and some right-brained art expression when feeling stuck. I will always work with you to tailor the dialogue and treatment plan to meet your needs. Congratulations on taking that first step!

I came into this field to work to support queer and trans people, and stand in solidarity with those who have experienced trauma and oppression.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in group and individual settings. Many youth are feeling the impact of the political atmosphere, and extreme transitions of their social and personal identities. Our environments are constantly changing, relationships shifting, and therapy can be a place for you to process your feelings and experiences.

Welcome folks! I am a queer therapist who focuses on working with folks surviving trauma and those in the LGBTQIA+ community. Experiencing trauma of any kind can have a profound effect on the way you view yourself, the world, and others. My primary focus as your counselor is creating a sense of safety, and prioritizing connection with you as a person. Healing from trauma is challenging, and my goal is to allow for a space that is both repairing and empowering. It can also be challenging to find therapists that are truly LGBTQIA+ affirming. I work hard to create an inclusive environment that allows you to explore your identity.

For Gay, Bi, Queer Men, unresolved pain and unnamed hunger create severe ruptures in our here and now. Disruptive mood patterns and compulsions are signs of emotional injury that deserve a space to be held and cared for. Without language, we use our bodies and relationships to resolve the unresolved. Therapy is a place for this work and can be where the mind, body, & spirit become a family again. I support folx through a healing and relational framework to reconnect with values, hoping to take committed action towards goals and wishes. My work is focused on supporting gay, bi, and queer men to find integration

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
