I specialize in working with; managing chronic medical conditions, grief and loss, palliative care, advanced care planning, mood disorders, and LGBTQ+ focused support.
The recent years have been exceptionally stressful and full of anxiety for many of us. We can all use therapeutic support to navigate life's transitions, family issues, medical illness, and also grief (to name a few). Having a safe space to process our innermost thoughts and feelings can be a big first step in working towards change. My main goal in treatment is to create a space where clients can be their true selves, express their true feelings, and gain true insight.

I am a Black, queer, non-binary, transmasc social justice practitioner who is deeply committed to this project of liberation.
You may be wondering how you are possibly going to put your life back together. Or, maybe, perhaps you're praying that you can finally put the vice down. Maybe the heartbreak of loss and unexpected endings is eating you up. We might be a good fit for one another if you're queer, poly, considering recovery, interested in a somatics based practitioner, and vibe with crystals and energy. Whatever it is, let's share a cup of coffee and figure it out together. If you are committed to your wellness and have a desire to seek restoration for a weary soul, hit my line. Let's Get Well, Y'all!

Our practice specializes in working with People of Color, Queer and Trans clients.
Sometimes, core parts of who we are fall outside of what is considered normal or acceptable. It can feel impossible to understand yourself. You might feel invisible or wonder if you’re really the problem. You know that hiding these parts of yourself doesn’t feel right and isn’t sustainable. At the same time, you question whether it’s worth all the pain that might come from fully exploring and expressing yourself without hiding your identity, isolating from others, or masking. You may already have a strong sense of your identity and know what would help but feel that it's not accessible or possible.

I am passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and families. I also enjoy working with people in recovery. I have spent the majority of my career in the field of addiction counseling. I genuinely believe that as a therapist, my job is to help people become the best version of themselves. People come to therapy to discover new things about themselves. Sometimes it's wonderful, other times it's difficult but, I am not only willing, I am passionate about talking about the things that they have not been able to share with anyone else and getting to witness the growth that comes with facing those demons together.

As a sex positive, gender and LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist I enjoy working with both individuals and couples facing a multitude of different life challenges.
I am here to create a safe and trusting environment that allows clients to unload their thoughts and emotions. Empowering them in a genuine, straightforward, and relaxed atmosphere to step into the brave space where they are able to find their truth, speak it, and live it. My integrative approach is tailored to each client. During this process the client learns how to accept where they are in this moment. Then identifying and making changes to get to where they want to be. This allows them to free themselves from the persistent negative thoughts and societal pressures holding them back from living the life they have always wanted.

I have two areas of passion: I have years of clinical and personal experience working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and, as a classically trained musician, I also have insight and skills for helping creative folks of all stripes navigate the "slings and arrows" of their chosen medium.
Choosing a psychotherapist can be a challenging process and we often find ourselves doing it when we are already stressed. I strive to create a tranquil, accepting atmosphere in my work, while my patients also say they enjoy the laughter that we can sometimes find in the midst of our explorations. My approach focuses on identifying patients' existing strengths and increasing their capacities to cope with stress so as to lead more satisfying lives. I take a "best-tool-for-the-job," integrative approach, drawing from a range of psychotherapeutic orientations, all supported by solid science.

I enjoy working with issues specific to artists and queer/NB/trans folks.
How are you looking to grow, change, or expand your awareness of yourself and your relationships? My work is to support and challenge; providing you with space to explore your self and connections to others, understand the story you create around your experience, and recognize patterns in your life from a foundation of support. Together, we investigate the ways you relate to others, the ties in your history that inform where you are now, and how we can facilitate healing from pain-whether that pain looks like depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual dysfunction, or discomfort in your relationships.

I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and strive to create a safe space for all of my clients.
Asking for help when you are struggling is incredibly hard. Maybe you have tried therapy in the past and it was not a good fit. I strive with each of my clients to meet them where they are emotionally and work with them to achieve their goals. I work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, relationship stressors, and life transitions. My approach fosters a supportive, collaborative relationship that brings about real change. At the same time, I try to bring humor and laughter into the therapy space, often through nerdy pop culture references.

I have a passion for working with youth and young adults, couples, individuals or family members affected by substance use, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and populations with minimal representation.
Have you been asking yourself “who am I?” or trying to discover where you fit in? Are you noticing opportunities for growth in your life and could use motivation? Have you recently been navigating major life changes, such as a divorce, graduation, changes in relationships, or childbirth? Re-evaluating your self esteem? Having difficulty finding self-care that works for you or keeping it a priority? Are you seeking a space to process your unfiltered thoughts and feelings free from judgment? Perhaps you might be looking to learn how to name some of your complex emotions or how to explain your needs to others.

I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist.
Do you keep getting an uneasy feeling that you can't put words to? Do you struggle to be yourself? Do you need to constantly be doing something? Do you overthink what you will say, did say, or want to say? You are not alone. We live in a society where we're told we "should" be this and we "shouldn't" be that. It can be exhausting when we just want to be. During therapy I strive to provide a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel safe to be who they are and talk without judgment. I will get a better understanding of who you are and where you'd like to be, and together we will work on developing ways to get you to your goal

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
