I have a passion for working with individuals and couples in the LGBTQ+ community.
Are you finding that that the things that you used to enjoy aren't bringing you the same joy they have in the past? Are you and your partner having difficulties connecting with each other and find yourselves talking past each other? If any of these resonate with you, then I’m here to help. I firmly believe that you are the key to your own success story, and that with hard work and consistent support, you can achieve happiness and self-acceptance.

I specialize in client-centered therapy with individuals in several marginalized communities including but not limited to LGBTQIA+, LatinX & BIPOC, trauma, neuro-divergent, addiction, and the elderly.
In our highly complex and digitized society, it may feel instinctual to leave our sense of who we are as humans on standby. I’m here to provide a safe place to land as you make meaning of the emotions, tribulations, and triumphs that have shaped you into the individual you are or aim to be in your life. I hope to help you reclaim inner confidence and guide you to improve your communication skills, learn to engage in empathetic introspection, and re-spark your curiosity about the world around you.

Much of my recent experience has been with military populations and members of the LGBTQ+ community, with emphasis on treating trauma, ADHD (especially in teens and adults), anxiety and depression.
As a therapist, I am dedicated to helping you achieve your goals and improve the quality of your life. My approach to counseling is eclectic/integrative and based upon a person’s individual needs while being empathetic, non-judgmental, and easy to talk to. I primarily draw upon cognitive-behavioral therapy, humanism, systems theory, strengths-based theory, trauma-informed care, and psychoeducation.
Since graduating from the University of Georgia and entering the field in 2010, I have gathered broad clinical experience in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

I have helped parents better understand their children and develop new parenting skills, worked with families and patients who are living with brain injury to help them cope with grief and to accept their “new normal,” and helped LGBT people, of all ages, to support and affirm their journey.
I see psychotherapy as a partnership and a process, where the client is the expert about their own life and the therapist is a guide. My emphasis is on helping clients change unhelpful behavior and thinking patterns that prevent them from building and maintaining positive and lasting relationships. The core of good therapy is based on building a relationship of trust, empathy and respect for the client. I provide an environment of safety and trust where we can explore issues, fears, concerns, and hopes. My goal is to transfer knowledge, skills and confidence so, eventually, you won’t need me!

I work with the transgender and gender expansive community and members of the LGBTQ community.
Are you struggling with coming out, exploring your gender identity, religious trauma, are autistic, have ADHD or are just looking for someone that "gets" you. Really "gets" you or your child. LGBTQ, Transgender and gender expansive clients are my specialty and I have been working with this community for over a decade. As a queer person myself, I understand the struggle of coming out or finding your own place in the world. I enjoy working with people from 6th graders to adults who want to have the courage to be who they are. It is okay to need help and I know you are the authority on your own gender identity.

Because it is YOUR TIME and You are worth all of the time energy you spend building a life that lights you up inside. The people I am most able to help will sometimes have a hard time believing that anyone has a life that lights them up inside, that it is even possible to be that excited about waking up. Struggles with self-harm, chronic suicidality, self-esteem, depression, and trauma backgrounds...these folks are the folks that will find a willing and capable ally in me. My practice focuses on psychotherapy, neuropsychological assessment, and educational advocacy. Due to COVID, I am offering tele-assessment for those in high risk groups or w/ family members who are. Issues include: learning problems, employment challenges, relationship struggles, life transitions, developmental disorders, medical illnesses, and stress of being a member of a diverse group (LGBT, ethnic minorities, etc.). I see children/adults who may be unconventional, anxious, depressed or do not fit comfortably within their environment. The label “disability” may be applied to them, but “differently abled” is more accurate.

When people are looking for a therapist, it’s usually because they’re hurting or their relationships are struggling. I understand your pain. I’ve been there! And because I’ve been there… I can show you the way out. I’ll be your guide to building your way to a healthy, happy life, and strong relationships. I am not a passive, “sounding board” kind of therapist. We'll do active work in session, I'll recommend reading material, give you homework assignments. I work with individuals and relationships. I'm the author of "Cultivating Connection: A practical guide for personal and relationship growth in ethical non-monogamy."

Life can sometimes bring challenges that are best approached by talking to someone who can provide an objective and supportive perspective. I view therapy as a partnership, and am committed to working together with you in difficult times. I am interested in helping you grow and make changes. Change will sometimes be easy and quick, but more often it can be slow and frustrating. While there are no instant cures, I can help you to learn new ways of looking at your concerns that will be very helpful for changing your feelings and reactions.

I help nerdy cool awkward teens and young adults navigate through a world that doesn't seem to fit. My clients struggle like you do. Despite being smart, funny, and knowing the ins and outs of their favorite games, life is hard. When they first come in, they tell me that they don't need therapy. They explain that other people don't get them, blame them, and expect them to be something they're not. They can't figure out where life went from sometimes fun/sometimes boring to unmanageable and overwhelming. They talk about their family not caring and not really having friends. They struggle to communicate with pretty much everyone.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
