As a cis, gay, white male, I support those who create diverse, inclusive, anti-racist, and welcoming environments and workplaces.
Whether you are experiencing anxiety and feeling overwhelmed, feeling down or in the dumps, transitioning to the next stage of your life, experiencing career development or change, or building self-esteem, I offer a welcoming and reassuring perspective to therapy. After identifying your goals and defining success, we will create steps and therapeutic experiences to achieve those goals. Uncovering and discovering your feelings, emotions, and thoughts and working towards therapeutic goals will make you more resilient when faced with changes and challenges, growth and development.

When he is not working, Geof is passionate about video games (especially any of the Final Fantasy titles), singing in a choir, doing karaoke, and traveling with his partner and close friends! He is very active in LGBT advocacy and activities, as well.
Geof Phillip is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado who has been practicing since 2015. He was educated at the University of Northern Colorado for both his BA and MA. He brings a wealth of life experience coupled with the rigorous and accredited education he received at UNC. Geof offers a warm, empathic, and gently challenging aura for your counseling. It is Geof's belief that growth happens in times of discomfort, and he is here to gently, and often humorously, walk with you as you go through the difficulty together. Expect a nerdy or pop culture reference here and there and you will get through this together.

Currently, I work with individuals aged 9 and over needing a helping hand with depression, anxiety, trauma, and LGBTQ+ related concerns.
I'm currently accepting new clients and have a few evening openings available! My passion in counseling is working with people who identify within the LGBTQ+ community or within the BIPOC community. Outside of these communities I also enjoy working with people who struggle with chronic health problems, depression, anxiety, and trauma to name just a few. If you are looking to discover more about yourself, figure out how to live your most authentic life, or learn ways to overcome your past and embrace your future, I would love the chance to connect with you.

Do you ever feel like you’re just going through the motions? Have you felt like life is passing you by, but you just can’t seem to catch up? I will work with you to address the patterns in your life that keep you from feeling fulfilled or living authentically. It can be intimidating to tackle things like anxiety, trauma, or addiction—but you don’t have to do it alone.

Initially an engineer, I realized through a journey of self-discovery, reflection, and growth my true passion and skill was for helping people heal, giving hope, and creating change. This led me to pursue a Masters in Counseling through the CACREP-accredited counseling program at Denver Seminary. I believe the essence of my work is to facilitate self-growth by helping you identify the core challenges and setbacks in your life, so that you can overcome them with confidence. I am passionate about authentic relationships, with yourself and others.

Experiences of anxiety, depression, and trauma take a massive toll on our lives and relationships, often leaving us feeling out of control, disconnected, and dissatisfied. However, I believe that healing is not only possible, but is something that we are naturally moving toward, even when it doesn't feel that way. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can reconnect to that natural impulse toward healing.

Life presents opportunities for change and we all have the ability to grow from this change though self discovery. I believe that although change is inevitable, it takes courage to be active in guiding change toward personal growth. My goal is to create an environment where real and sustained growth is possible.

Currently accepting new clients .... Why is change so hard? Because we are often not aware of what we do or why we do it. My specialty is diving deeply into the mind and helping you experience change at a fundamental level. This requires no special knowledge or skill on your part, only willingness to explore and an openness to what you might find. Just like your body, your mind knows how to heal itself. My role is to facilitate that process. I provide a safe environment, compassionate feedback, and supportive challenge when needed. I also offer Neurofeedback to improve concentration, sleep, anxiety and ADHD.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
