I hold a Masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in LGBTQIA+ psychotherapy.
We go to therapy for many reasons: to untangle old patterns, to seek relief from emotional pain, to move through grief, to develop our capacity in relationships, to know ourselves more deeply. Everyone’s therapy experience is unique to them. Some of the ways that we might work together include: exploring what you feel and how you express it, noticing how your past experiences are influencing your present, and what calls your attention when it has space to be heard. We will have the opportunity to slow down dynamics and work with them. This is all approached with curiosity, collaboration, and compassion.

Calling all over-thinkers, perfectionists & people pleasers! If you feel bound by the shameful “shoulds” that keep you stuck in cycles of problematic patterns, bad habits, unfulfilled relationships & addictive behaviors - I see you. As a gay man and US immigrant, I have lived the “othering” that comes from not belonging to the dominant norms and culture; and I recognize the deep sense of isolating loneliness that follows rejection, harsh judgment & low self-esteem. A recovering perfectionist myself, I get it. I am here to help. Living our lives for others is exhausting. When will enough be enough? When will YOU be enough?

I founded the Antioch University LGBT Specialization and Colors LGBTQ Youth Counseling Center in 2006.
I come from the heart. I'm here to help you feel safe and secure. I am here to go on a journey with you to find your true self, to lift depression, to work with anxiety, and transform this time of crisis into stronger relationships and more heart-felt productivity. As a gay, Jewish man, I have an ear for all people struggling with difference and oppression. I can go deep with you into healing old trauma. Or I can help you coach you with day-to-day career and relationship challenges. If you need a therapy to jump-start new growth in the New Year, I am here for you on that quest of both self-discovery and seeing more palpable results.

I am passionate about helping people on the LGBTQ+ continuum achieve a wholeness and personhood not mirrored by a cis/heteronormative society.
I believe therapy is meant to be experimental, experiential, and collaborative. Carl Jung said, "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed." Insights in therapy have the potential to be challenging and painful, and my job is to help you through them. A spirit of non-judgment, empathy, directness, and sense of humor defines my style. My goal is to assist clients in connecting to their authentic Selves, for the purpose of overcoming negative thinking, self-destructive patterns, and unfulfilling relationships.

I am committed to LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy that is anti-racist and trauma-informed.
In life we can sometimes feel stuck in old patterns. Or maybe our sleep, eating, or job performance has changed. Mood, physical health, and mental health are all connected. Brain fog, tiredness, loss of interest (or sleepless nights, jittery days, etc) can mean the balance is off. These are times when therapy can help you understand the issues from a new point of view. Primarily, I see my job as one of listener and guide. Together, we can figure out what's keeping you from being a joyful resilient person. It takes courage and strength to ask for help. I am here if you are curious or ready to begin.

I work with individuals and couples. I address such questions as: Are you having difficulties in your relationships? Do you experience anxiety or depression? Do you just want to feel better about yourself and reach your full potential? And I'm especially qualified to help Creative and LGBT people. Are you a Creative person with high standards for yourself or who has a hard time dealing with rejection? As a long-time member of SAG-AFTRA, I help you to recognize that being creative is hard and to strive for excellence instead of "perfection."

As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, I strive to create a safe, inclusive, judgement-free space for clients to explore, heal, and grow.
Sometimes people find themselves repeating behavior patterns that don't help them move forward. Out of control thoughts, feelings and reactions can interfere with one’s sense of peace and wellbeing as well as relationships. If you can identify with any of these challenges, I can help you find your center and honor your life path.

I am Solution-Focused, EMDR trained, Queer, Feminist, and passionate about Critical Race Theory and systemic injustice. My clients struggle with internal shame and boundary setting that often gets in the way of them achieving their goals. I focus first on practical solutions, while analyzing my clients for patterns and traumas that are keeping them stuck. Guiding clients through complex traumas, I restore hope and self-esteem (it’s easier than you think; and often fun.) Together, we navigate the challenges of self-discovery, fostering joy, curiosity, and empowerment. I help people move from survival mode to thriving.

I am a gay licensed therapist in California who believes that change is possible, incrementally. I also believe that what works for one person may not work for another. I particularly enjoy working with LGBTQ clients but also happily see straight clients and find joy in working with all populations and people from all backgrounds. I work well with clients who appreciate some give and take in session. And who are open and ready to work on connecting to a stronger version of themselves - however that looks for you.

I work with cisgender heterosexuals in my practice, and I am also an LGBTQ+ Affirmative clinician and clinically trained on issues uniquely impacting these communities.
Thanks for checking out my profile. My approach to working with you in therapy would encompass all registers of your experience, including non-verbal communication, the body, and the mind. In my way of working, developing an understanding of where and how feelings are actually felt is as important as understanding cognitive distortions and negative thought patterns. I listen to every which way you communicate. Psychotherapy can be used in myriad ways, short or long-term. Often when distressing symptoms have abated, psychotherapy shifts to become something more deeply self-reflective and meaningful.

It's hard to find non-stigmatizing mental healthcare and a supportive place to heal. That's why, together, we will collaborate to create a therapy that meets you as you are. I hold an affirming space for marginalized orientations, neurotypes, and relationship styles. We can work to navigate major issues like trauma, grief and life changes, or an ongoing condition like depression or anxiety. I am also passionate about supporting people through their gender journeys. My therapy is not just inclusive, but is LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity affirming. I also enjoy working with couples or relationship groups as they navigate challenges.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
