As an openly queer social worker with 9 years of experience, I am particularly aware of how issues like race, gender, identity and culture impact our view of ourselves and the world.
Sometimes grief can feel overwhelming. We come to understand that we need help to work through our loss, but it can be difficult to know where to start. As a clinical social worker with five years of bereavement experience, I believe that you can heal. I've worked with many individuals who are new or skeptical of therapy and it has been my great joy to help them gain confidence and hope through our work together. If you experienced a traumatic or overwhelming loss, I would love to provide a safe, affirming space to work through it.

In addition to addressing different mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic mental health needs and interpersonal challenges, I hold zeal in supporting those in the LGBTQIA+ community. I also find passion in a foundation of empathetic, strength-oriented and ratifying approaches to non-traditional relationships, sex and sexuality with an understanding of sex work, kink or power dynamics in sessions. It can be exceptionally challenging or isolating to find affirmation while navigating these complex needs!

I specialize in work with teens, young adults, LGBTQ folks, and people in nontraditional family/relationship structures (polyamory, CNM, etc).
Something’s not working. You can see that there’s a problem, but you can’t quite see how to fix it. You know you don’t want things to stay the same, but it’s hard to imagine how they could be different. Whether you’re seeking to build coping skills for increased emotional balance, improve communication in your personal relationships, or untangle deep-seated habits that are holding you back — I can help. Let’s work together to shift your perspective, and find a way forward.

Welcome! As a Black, queer, first generation American, Trinidadian, and cis-gender woman, my clients are primarily BIPOC folx who experience mental health and relational challenges as a result of the history of colonialism, slavery, sexism, White supremacy, and xenophobia that has led to a world of inequity and the fear of "other." I partner with those striving to combat the negative impact of systems of oppression (including trauma, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem) as we move toward radical acceptance of self, joy, ease, and healing.

My work encompasses a range of topics, including anxiety/depression, grief & loss, relationship challenges, LGBTQ+ issues, and life transitions.
We all come to therapy in our own way. Often because we've lost our way. Maybe there’s a current crisis or ongoing feelings of dissatisfaction, anger that gets the better of you, sadness that won’t go away or confusion about where you’re going. Whatever your reason, you know you want something different - greater spontaneity, deeper connections, more intimacy...with yourself and others. Together, we’ll explore where you come from, examine where you are and expand where you want to go.

My approach is informed by a narrative therapy, mindfulness, anti-oppression, healing justice, and LGBTQIA+ affirming framework.
I believe that with intention therapists are activists. I envision therapy as a radical healing space where communities of color, especially Black communities, can feel empowered and validated in spite of life’s messiness and structural oppression. As a co-parenting Black mama and marriage and family therapist intern, it is important for me to serve Black families of all kinds in order to help them cultivate deeper love, safety, and healing.

Whether seeking relief from anxiety and depression, coping with trauma, or working to develop a better sense of who we are and what we want, we all seek therapy because we desire change. And change is difficult. It involves coming to terms with the past, shedding unhelpful habits and learning to function more effectively in the present.

With embodied presence, I take your side, within and against the world, on and from the earth. I talk with you in a way that I talk only with you, a way we make together, consciously and unconsciously. And I listen with you, facilitating a place you can be attuned to in new ways. As we co-create an intimate conversation, aliveness may grow in and among us.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
