I believe counseling should be a collaborative approach that can sometimes be messy, challenging, and beautiful as you work to become your best self. As with most life experience, I believe you will learn more in the healing journey then you will in arriving at the destination. During this journey I believe it's vital that you have a safe space, without judgement, to understand and explore who you are and who you want to become. In my work with you I would be passionate about providing a nonjudgmental, safe place for you to find support.

I help gifted, hurting individuals and couples, often ages 30-60, experience relief from the loneliness and destructive behaviors that arise from trauma and addiction. I work with survivors of sexual and spiritual abuse, porn and sex addicts, and couples in distress, moving with them through the cold shadow of death when there seems no way out, to find a way through. My clients find increasing freedom from anxiety, fear, anger, and self-hatred. I help people stop running from their pain and shame and start walking in peace to make conscious positive choices.

Having studied and practiced psychotherapy for the last thirty-six years, I believe that the central element of successful psychotherapy is a respectful, empathic, and honest relationship. Within that relationship we will work on helping you understand how you learned to think of yourself and your place in the world. I believe that what we learn of ourselves early in life sets the stage for relationship patterns that either affirm or devalue us. The latter leads to depression, anxiety and other difficulties. Together we will work toward greater self-acceptance which can, in turn, change other relationships in your life.

Psychoanalysis goes beyond reducing symptoms to provide a unique space to listen to your desire, where you can let go of standards and think out loud without judgment. You can bring your history, your dreams, anything that comes to mind. As you speak freely, you will begin to live more freely. The clients who begin work with me aren't free--they are constrained in a number of ways: depression, anxiety, disordered eating, low self-esteem, fear of intimacy, or impulsive behaviors. This thing called life offers unexpected obstacles that pose the question of how we handle them. Therapy enables us to feel empowered to overcome our barriers. We must self-search and manage internal issues to obtain that empowered position. My passion is to walk alongside those suffering from all-consuming eating disorders and attachment issues. Attachment issues and unresolved trauma can be the source to our intrusive anxious thinking, dark depression and addictions that monopolize our attention. When these all-consuming problems constantly knock at the door, it feels impossible to work through outstanding, external issues.

Old hurt and self-defeating beliefs prevent us from reaching our fullest potential, while habitual patterns sabotage authentic connection, leaving our relationships stranded in the shallows. I was drawn to work with children, adolescents and families because of my passion of partnering with people and helping them through difficult times.
