I am a non-traditional Therapist, in the field of Mental Health, Family Therapy and Addictions since 1978. I was a Licensed Forensic Psychologist for 16 years, as well as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor,Gambling Counselor, and BCIA-certified Biofeedback Therapist. I continue to maintain a Mental Health License in both New York and Pennsylvania. As a young adult I sought out counseling to help me navigate my life's issues. It felt most beneficial when a therapist, by listening and understanding me, in a nonjudgmental, supportive and educational way, seemed to meet me where I was at both emotionally and mentally- giving me hope, the tools, the time and the motivation I needed to heal.These healing experiences gave me the desire to help others. Thus following their positive examples, I have approached everyone's treatment on an individual basis- knowing everyone is different emotionally and mentally, and are coming from different life experiences.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families. I have several years of experience working with a diverse array of people and have had the privilege to walk alongside people as they navigated a variety of life conditions and issues. I treat individuals that are dealing with such issues as anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, divorce recovery, grief and loss, ADHD, anger and conduct issues, trauma, substance use and abuse issues, gambling, sexual and process addictions, addict in the family issues, codependency, attachment issues, personality disorders, and spiritual conflicts.

Addiction psychology, alcohol and drug counseling is what we do. I am unusual as a director of this practice because I am 1) a psychologist 2) a certified alcohol and drug counselor and 3) I'm over 30 years sober myself but 4) I don't insist that people be sober if they don't want to be or aren't ready. This approach is called, "harm reduction". While we offer counseling for compulsive behaviors like, gambling, internet, computer and gaming addictions, our focus is relationships, depression, anxiety and other mental health & psychological treatment & counseling. We each have specific specialties and practice very similarly.

I believe my non-judgmental and warm demeanor allows people to feel at ease and more willing to share issues that lead them to seek counsel. While I am trained in counseling theories and techniques, I believe using the Bible as the fundamental guide in exploring the emotions that often paralyze our daily lives and relationships. Self reflection, forgiveness, effective communications, healthy boundaries and expectations all play a role in finding a sense of peace within ourselves and our relationships.

How did I get here? How do I get things back things back on track? Through counseling you will find the tools to challenge problematic behaviors and thoughts patterns and resolve them. I have skill and experience working with adolescents as young as 13 and adults. My main areas of clinical expertise include substance use, gambling addiction, anxiety, adjustment to life transitions, depression, bi-polar, self-esteem, relational issues, Borderline Personality Disorder, stress, imposter syndrome (career issues or phase of life issues), women’s issues, sexuality issues, coping skills, codependency and family conflict.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with adolescents, adults and families in psychotherapy, consultations and evaluations. (A) Treatments for substance and behavioral addiction have been a special area of interest and expertise, and I work closely with individuals who have concerns about their substance use, gambling or internet/gaming overuse. (B) I specialize in working with couples and families who experience relational difficulties and disruptive family functioning, between parents or in parent-child relations. (C) As a Korean-American clinician, I conduct evaluations and therapy with Asian-American young adults and their families.

I am passionate about assisting individuals with discovering their strengths and abilities, in addition, to developing plans that helps one to operate at his or her fullest potential. I have been a practicing therapist for over 30 years, so I have dealt with all kinds of problems and issues that people come in, seeking help with. My approach is eclectic and personalized and is based upon the issues you bring, your life situation, and your goals for therapy. I accept most major insurances but if you do not have insurance, or an insurance plan I do not participate in, I have a sliding fee scale and we can make something work for you.

I am an addiction and trauma specialist with 15+ years of experience helping individuals, couples and families travel the road to recovery. I've worked as a sexual abuse case manager, drug and alcohol counselor, trauma group facilitator and military family consultant. I use an integrative approach rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to assist in the development of new, applicable coping skills, constructive processing and identification of concrete ways of managing after the therapeutic experience has ended.
