I mainly work with adults and the aging population. I work with individuals, couples and families. I am able to help with substance abuse (including co-dependency issues, as often times, addiction is a family disease). I work with mental health issues including anxiety, depression and trauma. I assist those who have experienced grief/loss. When working with couples my goal is to help them build an understanding of themselves and their partner(s). I work with the LGBTQ population and have training in substance abuse in LGBTQ population. I have experience with many different cultural backgrounds and religious affiliations.
I am a clinical psychologist and earned a Master's degree in Psychology (with a concentration in addiction) from the University of Detroit Mercy. I have training in psychotherapy that is a psychodynamic style. This therapy involves formulating an understanding of where emotions and behaviors come from, creating insight, and working through issues to cope.
Counseling provides an opportunity to talk with an objective, caring professional about concerns or problems in a solution focused manner. My goal is to create an environment that is compassionate. My hope is to provide a place to learn, heal and grow. Building emotional intelligence can also be important in our relationships with ourselves and others.
