For some people, it feels like there’s a TV in their head, and someone is rapidly flipping the channels. For others, it feels like there are phone notifications going ping! In their heads all day long. These are just a few of the ways clients of mine have described what it feels like to live with ADHD , and while everyone describes how it feels just a little bit differently, most of them struggle with the same feelings of inadequacy, failure, shame, and low self-esteem. My name is Julia Van Horn-Jones, and I want to hear about what life with ADHD has been like for you.

I have worked with a myriad of patients dealing with mental health and emotional issues, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD , antisocial personality disorder, adjustment issues, relationship issues, parenting, couples/marital therapy.
I understand that there is not one particular mold or pattern that fits every issue or concern, one life does not fit all. I make every attempt to ensure that you are in a comfortable environment free from conviction. I feel that you should be able to come to a safe place to explore every thought that one feels is necessary to assist with resolving issues. You should also not feel judged or condemned for thoughts or actions that have been socially deemed as wrong. What really matters is that you have taken the initiative to receive help sorting what could not be resolved on your own.

I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults with a broad spectrum of issues including trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, marital/relationship issues, ADHD , grief, and a variety of other mental health issues.
I am passionate about empowering people to make positive changes in their lives. I recognize that people have the ability to change, but often lack the confidence or direction to do so. I do not believe there is a one-size fits all approach to therapy and I strive to develop genuine connections so that therapeutic services are personalized to the needs of each client.

I am eager to work with anyone who needs mental health therapy or addiction counseling. I have more experience working with those individuals who have been abused or suffered a traumatic event. I am certified trauma therapist as well as I am EMDR certified (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). I enjoy working with individuals who suffer with an addiction as well. My ideal client would be an individual who is ready to address issues of mental health or substance abuse.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing therapy for adults, children/adolescents, and/or their families. I’ve found that many people come to me with narratives that describe themselves as “bad” or broken and not good enough, thinking that they will never succeed or are unworthy of love or respect. These false beliefs often prevent them from making lasting changes or from forming meaningful relationships. These beliefs can create problematic behaviors and can put a strain on many areas of their lives. This can lead to creating a hopeless narrative for not only themselves, but for their family as well.

I have worked in the mental health field over fourteen years in a variety of settings with both children and adults. I currently work in a private practice setting. I would describe my therapy style as Person Centered with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe effective therapy is most often a result of a positive collaboration between the therapist and the client. I have found my approach to be effect in helping clients alleviate depression and anxiety as well as improving self esteem/self image, decreasing impulsivity and anger management.

I'm currently accepting appointments for online individual, couples, and relationship therapy statewide in Georgia! At RelationshipTherapy.us, I help people make sense of their lives and relationships. As a therapist, I'm told I'm genuine, caring, and honest but kind. I tell clients what I'm thinking so they aren't left wondering. I build my approach around the client's strengths, and I like to focus more on the solution than the problem. None of us are born with relationship skills and yet we're all dealing with many different relationships on a daily basis. Therapy can provide strategies, coping skills, and peace of mind.

I enjoy the therapeutic process and helping people to grow, change, develop, and become. I enjoy helping people develop a plan of self care in a safe and nonjudgmental setting. With today's challenges to find time for self care I have recently added two new services to include: Tele-therapy as an option for clients who cannot come into the office for traditional services, and emotional support animal evaluation for those who need documentation of their need for their emotional support pet.

ADHD Therapists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

If you're looking for a Valdosta ADHD therapist, these professionals provide ADHD therapy and counseling in Valdosta.
