I am an experienced psychotherapist who has the ability to successfully apply psychological theory and techniques to help people make desired and necessary changes in their lives. My primary objective, whether in dealing with couples, families, or individuals is to provide them with healthy guidance, support, and insight in order to eliminate self defeating behaviors. I have been in practice for over 35 years and recently relocated from a very successful practice in South Georgia to be closer to home. I have provided counseling services in several different settings since 1996. I began my career as an Elementary School Counselor, I have worked as a Family Counselor in an addictions program, and as a Child and Adolescent Counselor in a community mental health center. I took some time off in order to be with my two children full-time. After my children entered school, I decided to resume my professional career and went into private practice.

Life is a struggle. Showing up every day is a daily chore. You want relief. You want to be heard. You want the negative voices in your head telling you are not good enough to stop. You want the past to be in the past and no longer trigger sadness and anger. Your emotions are big and they can be overwhelming. You want to stop overthinking everything.

A person’s awareness and acceptance of their emotional complexities can be the difference between living a high quality of life, with no restrictions, and one that is filled with pain, loss and destructive cycles. Dr. Cantor obtained his Masters and Doctorates in Psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook with special interests in Developmental Neuropsychology. He is trained in Clinical Psychopharmacology and holds Diplomates from the American Board of Forensic Examiners, International Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Counseling, and Psychotherapy, and Fellow Status of the Academy of Learning and Developmental Disorders, and the American Board of Psychological Specialties - Neuropsychology, and the National Acadenmy of Neuropsychology. He is a specialist with Developmental Disorder such as ADHD and Autism, Neurotrauma, Biological factors underlying Depression, and Forensics.

Melanie is an Associate Counselor. She completed her BA in Photojournalism through the University of Georgia. While completing her BA she discovered that what she most enjoyed about Photojournalism was getting to know people, and to help them tell their stories. Realizing her passion to help people to experience and tell their story well, led her to complete her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While completing her master’s she worked in a college setting counseling young adults dealing with anxiety, depression, and relational issues. After graduating, she worked with adults managing a range of mental health issues.

I believe most men want to be good but struggle with making sense of their inner world and knowing how to wield the strength God has given them. This can leave us feeling frustrated, as well as those we're in relationship with. We know there's more to us, but we don't know how to access this more. And the weight and fear of these expectations often robs us of our ability to make an impact for good in the world. I have conducted assessments on children, adolescents and adults to help determine functioning and to drive treatment planning. I have experience in assessing disorders of attention-deficit/hyperactivity, behavioral and emotional functioning, cognitive or academic abilities (including learning disabilities), autism-spectrum, trauma impacts, and personality.
