For over 20 years, I have worked as a therapist, guiding individuals on their journeys toward healing and self-discovery. I believe we live in a society that often muffles our voices at work, at home, and in our relationships. When your voice has been silenced for too long, it’s easy to lose confidence in yourself and your sense of direction. My goal is to help you rediscover your voice, allowing you to express your authentic self to the world. Together, we will learn to listen to your inner voice and trust where it’s trying to guide you. As you embark on this journey, you’ll begin to uncover your unique path toward self-discovery

You are the person everyone counts on. What no one sees is what it now costs you to keep that up, the deadline that slipped, the class you stopped going to, the messages you have not answered, the way an ordinary Tuesday has started to feel like too much. Sometimes there is a clear name for it: anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, ADHD, an injury or diagnosis that changed what you can carry. Sometimes there is not, which is harder to explain to anyone. Our team works with adults and emerging adults in exactly that place. Function-Focused Psychotherapy means we treat how you feel and what it is costing your week.

If you've been living with pain for years, maybe medical explanations have felt incomplete or dissatisfying, may leave you feeling frustrated or stuck. Many of the people I see have visit multiple specialists, tried lots of different treatments, yet continue to experience unpredictable and disruptive symptoms. Psychological treatment for pain is often a missing piece of their care. This doesn't mean that the pain is “psychological.” Pain affects neurocircuits associated with sensation, danger detection, learning, memory, and emotion and can cause dysfunction in these pathways. Therapy is about addressing this dysfunction.

My specialities include relationship conflicts, depression, anxiety and psychological assessment.
Psychotherapy works best when it feels like an enhancement to one's life, rather than an added stressor. It should provide a haven from life's daily stressors. Given one's hectic and demanding schedule of managing work, family and friends, I offer appointment times on most weekdays, as well as early evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

FAQ - Psychological Testing and Evaluation
What is a psychological evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?
Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

Who conducts psychological evaluations and assessments?
Psychologists are the primary professionals who perform psychological evaluations and assessments. Such psychologists hold a doctorate-level degree (PsyD or PhD) in the field of psychology and thus have extensive knowledge of the diagnostic criteria for various psychological conditions. In some cases, clients may seek a psychiatric assessment—typically conducted by a Medical Doctor (MD) specializing in Psychiatry or a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)—which are more focused on potential medication management for mental health conditions.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?
Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?
Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
