I believe that a person cannot be understood without a consideration of the various aspects of their social, familial, temporal, spiritual, economic, and physical environment. It is through this compassionate lens that my work begins. If you are someone who has suffered through trauma, or is struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, anger, or going through a big life change, I would love to help. I specialize in working with men's issues , professional's and athletes who struggle with performance pressures, and those with attachment trauma. I use EMDR to target traumatic memories and process then in a safe way.

What does it mean to be a man, and more importantly how does that feel? Together we will unlearn the limiting beliefs that stem from our upbringing and societal narratives, and instead learn how to acknowledge, accept, and deal with the full spectrum of emotions we have. Do you feel you are not properly heard in your relationship by your partner? Do the same troubles keep coming up within your relationship? I assist couples dealing with conflicts within their relationship such as trust, communication, infidelity, and the effects of past traumas surfacing.

A number of benefits are available from participating in psychotherapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, and stress management, and age issues. Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the challenges of daily life. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution.

There are few places where we can be our authentic self. During our time together I will encourage you to be all that you are as we discuss all that you want and can be. My focus is working with clients who sense that their life is not working out the way they would like because of the role of substances, emotional instability, or feeling overwhelmed by daily life struggles. Learning to cope with life when you weren't given the tools can be overwhelming. I use a strengths-based approach to improve symptoms and reach your identified goals while talking through skills that build a sense of stability and wholeness.

No one hands you a manual on how to win at adulting (or at being human)-I get that, I live that. In my practice I work with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and other identity-related crises. My specialty is with college students in particular as I have nearly a decade of experience working in higher education. As a Haitian-born, first-generation graduate, I can identify with the struggles that minority students often face with little to no support from their families. It can be isolating and frustrating trying to find your way, but having the right therapist on your team makes all the difference!

It’s truly incredible when a person sees that there’s something inside them that they want to work on, and then they go after that. It’s incredible that you’re here, that you’re searching. The people who want to be the best version of themselves, who want to break “generational traumas” and work on their mental health so that they can pass down health, wholeness, peace, and light to the next generation - those are the superheroes. Our mental health is our foundation for how we relate to ourselves and world around us after all - Our God, ourselves, and others.

If life has lost its color or if your smile is less than half-hearted, come to my office, and we can explore where all the color and heart went to go hide. Whether escape has been the bottom of a bottle, your bed, or another person, I will support you as we face the emotions and fears that have been chasing you. If you hate the world, your abusers, or yourself, we can rewrite the rest of your story so that it doesn't have to be a tale of despair, but a tale of overcoming. If you feel like some part of you has died, let's bring it back to life.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
