Entering psychotherapy doesn't need to be intimidating or scary! It does require a trusting and open relationship. I use my own experiences and education along with everything you bring to sessions to create a trusting, engaging and warm environment.
I specialize in dynamics related to child
sexual abuse
and trauma, family issues, divorce, depression and anxiety, difficulty with anger management, coping skills, low self-esteem, social skills deficits, relationship problems, and other general family concerns. Ever feel like being human isn’t always enough? Like you’re supposed to have superpowers that haven’t “kicked in” yet? Have you ever felt stuck? As human beings, we are met with obstacles. When those obstacles become overwhelming, we may feel stuck or confined to thoughts and feelings of failure, defeat, or hopelessness. I believe that our experiences allow us to create unique narratives that tell the stories of our lives. I work with clients to rewrite the stories they feel confined to. I respect the distinct narratives shared by each client and thrive to help them achieve the success they are in search of.

Are you tired of trying to heal on your own? Relying solely on your own efforts? Sometimes our friends and family members are unable to help. I am an experienced clinician who is passionate about helping people heal from trauma. Trauma can be caused by one experience such as a car accident, divorce or
assault
. It can also be the result of a series of events that took place over time. Trauma can lead to feeling alone, having difficulty trusting, feeling trapped, guilty, angry or like we don't fit in. There is hope regardless of what you are experiencing.

Brainspotting is a powerful, flexible, client-centered therapy that goes more deeply and quickly into our stored memories than other therapies. These stored memories are called brain spots. We change the negative ones. After looking for the most effective counseling technique which was also cost efficient for clients, I chose Brainspotting. Brainspotting is based on EMDR but I find BS is best for pinpointing the individual harmful memories which negatively interfere with our lives. The Brainspotting process enables the client to identify and resolve the roots of traumatic or troubling issues.

I help couples work through marital conflicts and help them achieve a relationship based on trust, security, mutual empathy and deeper levels of connection. I also work with individuals struggling with histories of trauma such as sexual, physical or emotional abuse. In addition, I help men who struggle with compulsive sexual behaviors, anxieties, depression, and/or obsessive thoughts. I encourage clients to explore their past in order to identify patterns that are affecting their current relationships and personal goals. I provide a safe place to share personal struggles and work toward change. Upon request, I provide a Christian approach.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
