Most of my clients are recovering from trauma or chronic stress, while many others come seeking help in overcoming depression, anxiety, loss, significant life changes, and parenting challenges. I am a certified
EMDR
therapist and have training in using this transformative therapy with both young people and adults. Two of my specializations are in addressing the unique needs of individuals and families involved in adoption, whether as an adopted individual, birth parent, or adoptive parent, and in working with those seeking to hold on to or rediscover their faith after spiritual wounding.

Brainspotting is a powerful, flexible, client-centered therapy that goes more deeply and quickly into our stored memories than other therapies. These stored memories are called brain spots. We change the negative ones. After looking for the most effective counseling technique which was also cost efficient for clients, I chose Brainspotting. Brainspotting is based on
EMDR
but I find BS is best for pinpointing the individual harmful memories which negatively interfere with our lives. The Brainspotting process enables the client to identify and resolve the roots of traumatic or troubling issues.

EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a powerful therapeutic method that can eliminate or dramatically reduce symptoms related to trauma, negative life experiences, phobias, esteem, depression, anxiety issues and more.
Working with adults, I have always viewed my traditional therapeutic training as my foundational core. It has been an invaluable guide, providing a useful framework and powerful methods to facilitate the healing process of my clients. While I rely on my traditional foundation, I have taken to heart many a clients desire to lessen their pain and have change come about more quickly. With this in mind I have sought out legitimate methods that produce deep, long lasting change and provide relief at a faster pace then traditional therapies alone.

I am an
EMDR
trained trauma therapist and also specialize in addiction.
Taking the first step can be hard. Anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma are just a few of things that us hold back from experiencing a fulfilled and purposeful life. How do we learn that we are worth good things? The key is healing. Therapy can be something that propels you toward growth. We can learn that we don't have to be the sum of our experiences, but that we can rewrite our own stories. We can shift the narrative so that we are empowered to make the changes we want to make. As someone in recovery from addiction and trauma, it's possible and attainable for all. We just have to take that leap and trust the process.

Do you find that past experiences are limiting how you view yourself or the ease in which you are able to connect with others? Individuals that have experienced adverse experiences can often feel like they have to “get better” by themself which can feel daunting and oftentimes isolating. If you are looking into therapy, I am guessing you have tried your hardest to work through your unique circumstances without long lasting relief. If you are ready to explore the parts of your story that continue to hold you back with someone who will approach your story with curiosity and compassion, you are in the right place.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
