Becoming a mother can be rewarding, but also confusing and scary. The journey of trying to get pregnant, being pregnant, and transitioning to motherhood is often filled with mixed emotions and
anxiety
. Maybe the coping tools that used to work are no longer serving you. Or maybe your support system isn't as robust as you'd like it. Either way, I am here to help support YOU in this important life transition.

You want to explore and accept your thoughts and feelings and what you want to stand for in the face of your losses and
fears
.
What if your priority today was to process your loss or face your daily anxieties? Sometimes just the thought of exploring your feelings is terrifying. You can get through the day-to-day tasks, but the days overall feel meaningless. It feels impossible to find energy or motivation to work towards the goals you want to achieve or even to think towards the future. Perhaps you cope by staying constantly busy or distracting yourself, but it does not help in the long run. It always feels like there is not enough time and you feel stuck in these patterns.

I appreciate how difficult it can be to ask for help when you're used to going it alone. At the same time, you may feel depleted and stressed from trying to navigate your way on your own. I've helped people from different cultural backgrounds with issues such as grief and loss, depression,
anxiety
, relationship and work difficulties, and illness. Many of my clients are 1st or 2nd gen in the US. I welcome all members of the adoption triad. Sometimes people seek support negotiating a current difficulty; others seek a deeper understanding of the impact of certain life events on who they are and why they behave in the way they do.

I primarily work with preteens and teens struggling with depression and
anxiety
. Often times, I have seen these presenting issues emerge due to conflicts in identity, within relationships, and even thinking about the future. I also see kids struggling with trauma as well, ranging in varying degrees of traumatic events the child has endured. While many of my kids that I have worked with come from different backgrounds, many strive for the same type of goals: Purpose & meaning, self-awareness, and happiness.

Taking the first step can be hard.
Anxiety
, depression, addiction, and trauma are just a few of things that us hold back from experiencing a fulfilled and purposeful life. How do we learn that we are worth good things? The key is healing. Therapy can be something that propels you toward growth. We can learn that we don't have to be the sum of our experiences, but that we can rewrite our own stories. We can shift the narrative so that we are empowered to make the changes we want to make. As someone in recovery from addiction and trauma, it's possible and attainable for all. We just have to take that leap and trust the process.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a challenging season. With changes at home, struggles at school, parenting pitfalls, or increased stress, we can feel uncertain and discouraged. For kids, this can look like increased
anxiety
,
fears
, depression, loneliness, and anger. And these BIG feelings can surface as BIG behaviors wreaking havoc at home. As a parent, you need support too - guidance on how to care for your family’s emotional well-being while juggling all, and I mean ALL, the things and taking care of yourself too.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
