My ideal client is ready for change, even if they’re not exactly sure what that looks like yet. They may not fully understand their patterns, but they know something isn’t working and are ready for support in finding a new way forward. I work best with clients who are motivated, open, and willing to explore their experiences with honesty and curiosity. At the core of my work is the therapeutic relationship—I strive to create a space that feels genuine, secure, accepting, and, when needed, gently challenging.

I love working with women and gender expansive people on concerns such as anxiety, depression, adjustment, life transitions, and trauma. I love guiding people through life transitions, shifts, and identity development. Helping my clients in their personal growth is especially fun for me. Aside from personal growth, I am most experienced working with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I help clients understand how systems beyond their individual life impacts why they may be feeling how they are feeling. I help clients work to live authentic and genuine lives that align with their personal values.

My clients are often the ones everyone depends on — nurturers, caregivers, professionals, partners, and parents who are carrying so much behind the scenes. They may appear high functioning outwardly, while quietly struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, grief, identity shifts, or the emotional weight of life transitions. Many are navigating fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, parenthood, or simply trying to reconnect with themselves. They’re looking for a space where they can exhale, feel seen, and receive support that is both culturally affirming and deeply compassionate.

At times in life we all get stuck and venture to places in which change is necessary. I aim to create a safe and caring space where we (you and I) listen to what your thoughts, feelings and symptoms are telling you about your story. Those stories then serve as a roadmap for developing new skills, making new meanings, and rediscovering parts of yourself that may have been lost. My style is warm, compassionate and creative, and I will use my years of experience and intuiton to guide and walk alongside you in your courageous journey of healing.

Have you spent your entire life walking on egg shells, scanning the room to monitor everyone else’s emotions, and shoving down parts of yourself to make other people feel more comfortable? Many of my clients grew up with emotionally immature or abusive parents or in strict religious environments and now find themselves struggling with self-doubt, perfectionism, or relationships that feel harder than they should. Their goals usually center on creating healthier boundaries, building stronger connections, and living with a sense of calm, clarity, and self-trust that’s been missing for too long.

I am a licensed psychologist with over 15 years of experience, primarily in higher education settings. My practice focuses on working with diverse people who are navigating life transitions and demands, particularly those connected to their identity and sense of self. I believe each of us is shaped through our life experiences, both positive and painful. Therapy is an opportunity to explore these experiences, especially if you are feeling unfulfilled or questioning your life’s purpose and meaning. While this process can be difficult, it can also lead to tremendous clarity, insight, and even joy!

Hi there, I'm Mary! It really can be hard to be human. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in your thoughts, or exhausted from carrying stress that never seems to let up. Life’s experiences—past and present—shape how we cope, relate, and move forward. If you’re ready to better understand yourself, reduce the intensity of anxiety or discouragement, and build tools that actually fit your life, therapy can be a powerful next step toward feeling steadier and more aligned with your goals.

I believe one of the bravest things a person can do, is to begin to understand their strength. When entering the therapy room with me, the expectation is that you are the expert of your life. It is not my job to tell you what to do but rather to assist you in discovering it on your own. I feel as if I didn’t choose to be a therapist, but rather this job chose me. My life experiences have brought me to the point in my life to be able to assist, support, and uplift my clients through whatever has brought them to this point in theirs.

On the outside, it might look like you have everything under control—but inside, it feels like you’re constantly managing stress, emotions, and habits that are getting harder to keep up with. Maybe it’s your relationship with food, alcohol, or your body. Maybe your mind never slows down. Or maybe you’re just exhausted from trying to hold everything together. I work with women who feel overwhelmed and stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Together, we’ll begin to understand what’s really driving those patterns so you can feel more in control, more grounded, and more like yourself again.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
