Family life in this day and age is challenging. As a former K-12 teacher, mother, wife, friend, and one of six daughters with a few years under my belt, I believe that I can help. Whether establishing appropriate disciplinary strategies, navigating co- parenting or blended family issues, my teaching background and focused studies during graduate school have prepared me to prayerfully walk with parents. It is also my passion to help couples discover their strengths and relationship vulnerabilities as they learn to communicate about "all the things." Building a God-honoring marriage is the first step in creating a godly family home.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a challenging season. With changes at home, struggles at school, parenting pitfalls, or increased stress, we can feel uncertain and discouraged. For kids, this can look like increased anxiety, fears, depression, loneliness, and anger. And these BIG feelings can surface as BIG behaviors wreaking havoc at home. As a parent , you need support too - guidance on how to care for your family’s emotional well-being while juggling all, and I mean ALL, the things and taking care of yourself too.

I have extensive work in helping adults explore issues of self-esteem, depression, anxiety, codependency, dating, couples' issues, parenting and managing college/career stress.
My counseling style can be described as warm, empathetic, and accepting. Perhaps you come to therapy with a specific concern and goal in mind or maybe you are seeking counseling due to a general feeling of being stuck and unsatisfied. Whatever issue prompts you to seek help, therapy can provide an intentional place to pause, process emotions, and find clarity about what you need. I have a special passion for working with adults experiencing stress and anxiety and those prone to perfectionism and people-pleasing. Often in my work with clients, we explore the need to honor one's sense of self and establish healthy boundaries.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
