I holds a keen interest in assisting with women’s issues especially that of domestic and narcissistic abuse.
“Often when we are breaking down, we are really breaking open. It is my hope to hold space with you during your time of transformation and healing.” My approach is to create a safe, trusting, judgment-free therapeutic environment to bring your struggle into the therapy room real-time. I will work with you to create and shape an outcome that aligns with your life’s values, goals and direction. I hold an interest in Jungian psychoanalysis, existential, humanistic, person-centered, “here and now” and experiential therapy styles.

Have you been told that you need to work harder or be more committed to therapy in order to make progress? That if you would just not be 'resistant', then you would make progress? I believe that if you're faithfully going to therapy and not making progress, it's very likely that you're working on the wrong thing. Instead of figuring out and addressing the root of the problem, you're likely trying to deal with the symptoms of the problem. Like treating cough and congestion when you really should be dealing with the pneumonia that's causing those issues.

Why therapy? There are many answers to this question. It's a question I will ask when we first begin and you may or may not fully know the answer. If you are unsure at first, that’s okay. I promise we will figure it out together and by the end of our work you will have discovered why therapy was exactly what you needed in this moment of your life. And if you come to me knowing exactly what you need and why therapy is the way forward, I promise we will work very hard together so that you achieve what you desire.

Do you ever find yourself exhausted from holding everything together, even when you’re falling apart inside? Have you ever hoped someone could simply sit with you in your experience, so you don’t have to face it alone? Many people come into therapy saying, “I should be able to handle this.” But deep down, you might feel tired of trying to stay strong, keep control, or push your feelings aside. Sometimes an argument, a tone of voice, or even a silence can suddenly flood you with emotions or leave you feeling small, unseen, or disconnected.

Darrin is a licensed professional counselor trained to work with men, women, adolescents, couples and groups requiring professional help. He realizes that life produces internal storm damages occurring far too often without any damage control or prevention. The causes of moodiness, irritability, restlessness, discontentment, fear, doubt, uncertainty, anger, depression, anxiety, insomnia and addiction all have one thing in common - a lack of holistic wellness. Recovery from the internal/external effects of untreated mental and emotional damages is what he will introduce you to.

Ever feel stuck? You've tried everything you know to overcome the challenges in your life, but it's two steps forward, three steps back. Sometimes it's hard to put the past behind you and live today. Gabor Maté said, "Trauma is not what happens to you, it's what happens inside of you as a result of what happened to you." Whether you have experienced life-altering trauma or something you might consider a normal life challenge, counseling can help you move beyond the pull of your past. You can overcome your fears and find the freedom you thought you'd never experience. It's available today... one step at a time.

Gray Story Counseling and Wellness is a place where you can come undone and leave understood. Perhaps shame, fear, lack of self worth, or the trials of life have kept you from seeking out support? Even with all of your high achievements, you still don't feel like you are enough? Maybe you can't quite (yet) name the battle you are facing? Not to worry, I also help my clients identify where to begin their healing journey.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
