I also walk alongside clients navigating chronic illness, chronic pain, and medical trauma.
Our bodies can hold onto experiences that our minds weren’t able to process at the time. My therapeutic approach stems from research, post-graduate training, and a growing expertise of the lingering effects of trauma on the mind and body. I focus on individualized trauma-informed care with foundations in somatic experiencing and attachment theory.

I specialize working with individuals with ADHD, depression, anxiety, chronic pain/health issues, and have experienced trauma.
My ideal client is anyone who wants help, is willing to be open and honest, and is willing to put in some work to explore how they can live their best life. They may know exactly what they want to accomplish, or they may not. If they don't, together we can work to clear the fog and reveal the path to the life they want to live. They may be battling depression, anxiety, ADHD, past trauma, or anything in between. They may need a safe place to process past events, reveal and express their feelings, practice coping skills, or learn new systems to help them live their best life.

Alone, depressed, in a chaotic relationship – some days it feels like all these. Other days, it feels like just a lot of stress and anxiety. Those aren’t any fun either. Wondering how you got to this place, fear of failure, anxiety about the future, and inability to focus on things that matter – that’s how you go to sleep at night. Mulling over and over how, why, what should you do… without answers. . You hate this feeling but wonder how you can ever change it. I can help. These challenges may become the steppingstone to success, healing, and wholeness.

Darrin is a licensed professional counselor trained to work with men, women, adolescents, couples and groups requiring professional help. He realizes that life produces internal storm damages occurring far too often without any damage control or prevention. The causes of moodiness, irritability, restlessness, discontentment, fear, doubt, uncertainty, anger, depression, anxiety, insomnia and addiction all have one thing in common - a lack of holistic wellness. Recovery from the internal/external effects of untreated mental and emotional damages is what he will introduce you to.

In my own practice, I work with people suffering from depression, addictions, anxiety, spiritual illness, lack of purpose, love, partnership, direction, and drive.
I have spent over 6 years learning from the Shipibo healers of the Peruvian Amazonian rainforest on how to help others overcome their sadness, fear, depression, anxiety, spiritual illnesses, lack of self-worth, lack of love, lack of purpose, and general states of unease. I bring a different type of energy to my sessions, grounded in the roots of the earth. My education is experience-based. I couldn't learn it from a book. I had to learn it through the adventure of life. I now combine that with my Western education in social work and will soon hold my own license.

Experienced in treating clients coping with chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), fibromyalgia, and post-viral conditions including Long COVID.
Sometimes the mind feels crowded—with worry, longing, or the quiet ache of disconnection. Therapy is a space for two minds to think together, to untangle what’s hidden and give shape to what’s felt. At its best, it helps us become better social creatures—more able to move from desire to freedom, from thoughtful exploration to a more open and connected life. I work with clients exploring anxiety, intimacy, depression, and identity—seeking not perfection, but understanding and ease.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
