I am a Christian and can provide faith-based counseling on request.
Most of us have some idea of what therapy looks like, right? Sometimes it means to sit and talk through the issues on a comfy couch. At other times, it means to actually get off the comfy couch and take action even if and when it feels challenging and uncomfortable. Let’s be honest, it can feel risky to learn a new normal in how you approach life and relationships. I’m here to support you in that process and to help you navigate the next steps you want to take. My hope is that you will experience the courage to practice "off the couch" what we work through in sessions "on the couch."

I am a Christian therapist trained in many techniques, interventions, and approaches (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Humanistic); however, my focus is on working with my clients to meet their need for counseling. I believe counseling is the most effective way to gain insight into how our past is directing our present and future choices. We live in a world embraced intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships that have shaped and influenced our perception of ourselves and insightful counseling helps us ascertain what is important to us. I will work with clients, who prefer to incorporate their Christian beliefs into their counseling session.

Life Transformed Christian Counseling
Counselor, MA
Before I was a Christian , my life was probably just like any other young adult who had great aspirations for completing high school and moving on to college. After living under the strict standards of my parents, I wanted nothing more but to get out of the house and quickly experience the average adult life. I knew that it was going to be exciting and more importantly, without the supervision of my parents. Long story short, losing control brought about drug addictions, alcoholism, and single motherhood. I had to make a choice. Loose what I loved the most (my son) or turn to God for help. What choice will you make?

Christian couples find themselves especially at home with me, though all are welcomed & respected.
Couples often experience the frustration of being stuck in a pattern of having the same conflicts over and over. The vision of loving one person for a lifetime seems easy in the early stages of love. But, when the inevitable stress of life comes, you may find yourself questioning the decision to be together. Many couples today know they want better relationships than their own parents had, but need role models and help building lasting marriages. You are not alone.

My strong Christian perspective allows clients to explore their own faith related to the events in their lives.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor with twenty-four years of private practice experience. I bring my clinical and personal experience into the counseling process to strengthen, encourage, and challenge each individual to be their very best no matter what the circumstances in life may be. Five years ago, a major medical emergency left me paralyzed and close to death. I survived and learned to live my life to the fullest, albeit from a wheelchair. That experience and doing life from a wheelchair gives me a unique perspective in helping others cope with trauma and loss.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
