In addition to being a clinically licensed practitioner, I am also a certified
trauma
therapist.
We all know there are things in life we can’t control, but where we do have some control is in our responses to those things - even if it feels like we don't. Many times we just don't know how. My clients have
trauma
-related issues that have caused them ongoing problems. Traumas may be from childhood or from events experienced as an adult. Unresolved
trauma
masks itself in a variety of troubling ways. You may feel anxious, depressed, emotionally detached, or easily overwhelmed. You may even question whether or not what you've experienced is "
trauma
".

Do you struggle with feelings of abandonment, rejection, worthlessness, inadequacy, and low self-esteem? I want to work with you to develop a positive sense of self and to heal from the past traumas associated with your parental and family unit. Life does not warn you about the adverse effects of having a parent that struggles with substance abuse or mental illness which can leave you to sort out the byproducts of your
trauma
. I have experienced this exact pain.

As a Ghanian-Italian, 1st generation child of Ghanian parents, I know firsthand what it's like to deal with
trauma
, anxiety and depression.
Shame, anger, resentment and overwhelm. Feeling unsupported, misunderstood and feared. "I feel less than. Noone can understand the pressures and fears that I have living life as a Black man. I feel like death is going to find me no matter how good I am. No matter what I do." Death and loss are so very familiar to you. Your mind is teasing you. Your chest gets so tight and your heart beats hard and fast that that you think that you will die. Is this you? Maybe it's your son. Suspensions. Special ed classes. Providing medications without considering other alternatives. It's as if someone has declared war on you and those like you.

Let me meet you where you are on your life’s journey. Life in general can be challenging. Many of us endure distress that has resulted in mental, emotional, and physical anguish. Did you know changing the way you think can influence how you feel and in turn how you behave and react to life challenges? Let me equip you with the tools necessary to challenge automatic thoughts and relieve tension caused by stress. My passion is to help people facilitate change by teaching a new way to “think” of challenges as we go about life.

I provide cognitive behavioral therapy, one of the most researched, broadly applied and most effective evidence-based therapeutic modalities for treating anxiety, panic disorder, depression, somatic symptom disorder,
trauma
- and stress-related disorders.
Effective psychotherapy includes building rapport, trust, and achieving awareness through a collaborative process where patient and therapist work together to achieve stated goals. It includes evidence-based methods, learning about the issue or disorder, applying solutions and developing skills and strategies to manage emotions and realize your incredible strength and ability to persevere in the face of adversity and find acceptance in loss/grief and life's uncertainties. Initially, therapy can be challenging, but it is does become easier over time. To reduce your anxiety, I created a safe, professional, nonjudgmental environment.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
