Whether working on early/recent trauma (including PTSD), self-esteem, depression, anxiety,
relationship
struggles, grief & loss, life transitions or “I’m just not myself lately” feeling, let’s see how we can work together to craft the change you are looking for in your life.
Are you weighed down by your past or present experiences or trauma? Are you looking for a new way of relating to others in your life or learning to live your best life with acceptance & understanding? Many adverse experiences in our lives leave us with behaviors and beliefs that effect our ability to function and relate to the people we care about. Whether it’s a difficult break-up, childhood experiences, problematic relationships, or trauma, the healing that therapy brings can be transformative. Taking that step is important in healing & making change a reality.

Did you grow up without a consistent and healthy
relationship
with your parents due to their substance abuse, mental health issues, or verbal and/or physical abuse? Do you struggle with feelings of abandonment, rejection, worthlessness, inadequacy, and low self-esteem? I want to work with you to develop a positive sense of self and to heal from the past traumas associated with your parental and family unit. Life does not warn you about the adverse effects of having a parent that struggles with substance abuse or mental illness which can leave you to sort out the byproducts of your trauma. I have experienced this exact pain.

I believe the most important factor in counseling is the
relationship
between the client and therapist.
Counseling is a place we can explore the many facets of being a woman and the many roles that we fill. This is a confidential space to confront challenges and general life issues that may crop up in life including but not limited to emotional eating, negative body image, stress and anxiety, poor self-esteem, depressed mood, and neglected self-care. We all face difficulties during our lives. And because of the many roles we, as women, are expected to fulfill, we often do not show our suffering to the outside world. But that's how we feel on the inside. I want you to know that there is nothing wrong with asking for help!

Life can be challenging. Sometimes you strive toward something meaningful. It’s not easy but it’s fulfilling. Other times we can struggle with what blocks us from a satisfying life, like grief or depression or anxiety or trauma. What if you could refocus that energy from negative thoughts and feelings and, instead, pour it into pursuing a meaningful life? More time with family. Enriching a loving
relationship
. Chasing a career goal. Improving yourself. I believe we can lose ourselves in struggles that take us away from healthy living. You can aim for a way to deal with internal difficulties and engage in purposeful living.

I'm highly-trained as a Licensed Professional Counselor, and trained in Gottman theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy for
couples counseling

I am a firm believer that the greatest experiences and our most difficult moments include other people. Relationships with others are not always easy to navigate. Experiences we have with other people can have a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. I love to support people exploring their
relationship
with themselves and how that can have a positive impact on our
relationship
with others. I have knowledge and experience working with individuals and
couples
who have experienced trauma, loss, anxiety, depression, parenting, postpartum and identity issues.

Hi! I am not accepting new clients at this time but please check back in the future. My goal in therapy is to help you identify root causes of issues, process your past, and move forward in new patterns. Family dynamics and life experiences often keep us stuck, so I want to help you work through those difficulties and become more authentically yourself. I am open and affirming of who you are and trust that you are the expert on your life. My job is to provide tools and an approach that will best support you. We all need someone to sit in the midst of the mess with us, allow us to feel our emotions, and witness our growth.

I mostly use Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and Behavior Modification to work with teens and adults as individuals,
couples
, and families.
Therapy allows you to work through your thoughts, emotions, interactions and relationships in a safe supportive atmosphere. A good therapist will support and guide you to gain increased perspective and insight while also empowering you to self-assess and identify solutions/needed changes, not impress their beliefs on you. YOU are the active change agent in your journey to increased happiness and fulfillment; a good therapist just guides the way. I am happy to help whether you are seeking to find your own happiness, to improve or change relationships with others in your life, or to learn to better manage stress and emotions.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
