An inconvenient truth; "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone". It is well documented that our worst fear is fear of the unknown. Many will live in the pain of the familiar for years before it hurts enough to wholeheartedly embrace the risk of change. It could be a relationship, job/school, personal/family history, trauma, alternative lifestyle, shame/guilt, substance use, mental health or a variety of other things. If you are in pain, something has to change. Therapy can help you identify what steps are necessary, then develop a plan for change. I will work with you at your pace, offering support in a non-judgmental way.

At times, depression, anxiety, negative thoughts and situations seem to overtake you. It's difficult to focus and you're distracted by everything going on around you. You sometimes wish you could just escape but you know there must be a better way to live and enjoy life, again. Despite feeling overwhelmed and sometimes sad, you are hopeful that if you improve your emotional well-being, other areas of your life will improve as well.

PTSD doesn't develop only in those people who have experienced combat. You need a counselor who is aware of the many facets and forms of trauma and how they shape the person you are and how you experience the symptoms of PTSD. Veterans often have difficulty in working with therapists because many therapists have never experienced the military culture and the chaotic world of warfare. Having a therapist who is also a combat veteran enhances client trust, progress, and the working alliance. Having a counselor who is also aware of the trauma of Domestic Violence enhances your progress. I am very sensitive to the needs of PTSD people.
