Some days, it feels like there is a never-ending storm cloud hanging over you. No matter how hard you try, you can’t shake overwhelming emotions. One moment, you’re on top of the world, and the next you’re plunged into deep despair without any reason. It’s exhausting to feel like something terrible is always about to happen. Even the smallest setback triggers a cascade of negative thoughts that feel inescapable. The voices in your head are constant and upsetting. You feel helpless, exhausted, and misunderstood—even by your family and loved ones.

I am uniquely qualified and trained in the field of addiction and especially enjoy working with those who are suffering from addictive disease. As a helping professional for over 25 years I have gained tremendous appreciation for the human spirit and one’s ability to strive for and experience positive change. I believe we all have difficulties to overcome throughout our lives no matter who we are, and change is possible if it is desired. My ideal client is someone that is motivated for change, is willing to engage in honest self-assessment, and understands that insight is necessary but not sufficient for real and lasting results.

My practice is fairly evenly divided across individuals, couples and corporations. I address issues ranging from anxiety, depression, marital/relationship, parenting/family concerns to life transitions and executive/organizational development. I received my doctorate in 1986 and went on to serve as president of the Georgia Psychological Association from 1999-2000. I rely on a blend of cognitive behavioral and family systems therapy to help clients develop a practical, common sense path to change. The central premise is that in order to change your life, you must first understand how it used to work and why it doesn't anymore.

Therapy should be a safe place to unload, work through difficult topic, experience feelings fully, change behavior, and heal. I am here to support you on this journey. I meet my clients where they are versus telling them how and where to be. I have several years of international working experience in the mental health field to offer and I received education and training in this field oversea.

My practice aims to build a safe, non-judgmental environment, wherein the client is seen as a whole person, rather than a collection of symptoms. My approach includes looking at the ways in which our thoughts can influence the ways we think and behave, and exploring ways to restructure beliefs about ourselves and the world that lead to suffering. Individual and couples counseling sessions are structured to holistically target presenting behavioral concerns and encourage insight. My areas of specialty include substance use disorder, anxiety, depression, and couples counseling. I welcome members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Hi, I am Catherine and I have been working with various traumas and addictions for 2 decades. I completed my Master's in Social Work several years ago, giving clients not only the benefit of my extensive addiction counseling background, but also the knowledge base to help clients access available community resources to ease the burden on the journey. After finishing my Master's, I completed a certification program through IITAP working towards Certified Sex Addiction Therapist with the knowledge and understanding of helping couples, addicts, and betrayed partners heal from unwanted sexual behaviors and the effects on the family.

Did it again! I said I was sorry for the umpteenth time, even for the smallest slip-up. I walk this tightrope of nipping in the bud any possibility of others' disapproval. My biggest fear is that I'm worthless and won't be good enough. As a result, I am hyper-vigilant about almost anything I do, so I push til I drop. Lately, I have noticed my anxiety has gone through the roof. It is becoming harder and harder to get up and face the day. There's another side to me – even though I want closeness, I do the opposite: I become so angry that I swear and slam doors. No wonder I'm alone. I feel like a fraud. Is there hope for me?
