Life experiences can have a lasting impact on our mental health, behaviors, and relationships. Through these experiences, we can become disconnected from ourselves. When we are given the opportunity to reconnect with ourselves in a safe and compassionate environment, we gain access to our innate resources for healing and connection. I am here to walk alongside you as you process through life experiences, develop coping skills, and reconnect to the true version of yourself.

I truly feel that individuals don't care what you know until they know that you care. I try to meet individuals where they are in life and treat them unconditionally as well as with respect at all time. A person isn't going to focus on therapy if no electricity or food is within the home. I will provide you with community resources which can assist with your basic needs so that you're focused and ready for what therapy contributes to your life. I offer what you need to change, not what you want to hear. Teamwork approach!

Clients often come into treatment because what used to work just isn't effective anymore and they don't know what else to do or try. I believe that we can all change, and most of us want to change something in our life. I know my clients are the experts about their lives, their goals, and what works for them. I also believe that DBT and EMDR can help make lasting positive change in my client's lives. These modalities offer unique skills and tools to relieve distress and get clients unstuck. I strive to create safe and accepting space for clients to explore, experiment, practice, and ultimately achieve their therapeutic goals.

Throughout our unique developmental paths, we learn patterns and establish routines to help us navigate the world safely. Often, these patterns are beneficial for us, our interpersonal relationships, and our ability to navigate the world at large. Sometimes, however, these patterns develop dysfunctionaly, or become dysfunctional over time. Its is both my hope and expectation that through our work together, we can shine a light on these patterns and exceptions to patterns with an eye for those which are not, or are no longer beneficial.

Each age and stage of life brings new challenges and it doesn't come with a manual. My goal is to help clients navigate these transitions and challenges in the best way possible. I have spent 12 years working with children and families in a school setting and have seen the way family struggles impact the individual.

Reaching out is a victory! People seek counseling for a variety of reasons. Often, people seek therapy for the first time because someone close to them has suggested they get help. Others seek counseling because they have identified specific goals or issues that they wish to work on. Many people are struggling with common issues. Sometimes all we need is just a little help to navigate the challenges that life presents. What we ultimately learn is that life's obstacles add up to exactly what we needed to develop us into who we were meant to be. If trauma has invaded your journey, breathe.....help is here.

I love working with children, teens, and young adults! I can support young people as they walk through developmental changes and lifestyle transitions including new schools, anxiety and worry, family changes, parent divorce, trauma and loss. Often times, these changes create BIG feelings that can be hard to understand and express. I enjoy helping young people understand their feelings and partnering with parents to help their child learn to express them in a healthy way.

For months I’ve gone back and forth with what to write on my profile and where I’ve struggled is trying to be like the rest, and that’s not me. The truth is, I don’t want to sell myself, I want individuals who want to work and get better. I want to apply the skills and techniques that I’ve learned over the years to help people every day to get better, and eventually, not “need” me. For me, this is not about specific techniques or trainings, it’s about having support in the vulnerable moments so that we can successfully face the things that we struggle with, and do it differently.

If things were simple, word would've gotten out. The truth is that life, relationships, love, authenticity, meaning and purpose, mental health and psychological well-being - all the things we find ourselves up to - they can be pretty complicated. Furthermore, we often develop patterns and beliefs and ways of being that can entrench us in negative cycles that are difficult to break. I specialize in working with adults both young and old who are seeking to make more sense of their encounters with the world, other people, and themselves.

My approach is simple. I see my role as a partner in a process that is the pursuit of healing and restoration. While I have certain professional expertise, every client is an expert about his/her/their own life. I am intentionally client-centered, strengths based and trauma-informed. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my primary means of intervention which includes an eclectic blend of Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Humanistic and other modalities. Assigned homework is common and clients participate in the development of activities that support clearly identified treatment plan goals.

There is a quote floating around that goes something like "trauma is not your fault, but healing is your responsibility." Regardless of whether your suffering has been self inflicted or a result of someone else choices, I want you to know you have the power within you to rise up and transform. No one goes through life unscathed but without healing our pain gets transferred to many, if not all, areas of our lives. This can often look like depression, anxiety, shame, fear, addiction, etc.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
