At The Pursuit Counseling, we use EMDR therapy to help you process and reframe distressing memories, making space for healing.
From the outside, it looks like you’ve got it all together. Your career is moving, you’re achieving your goals, and you’re respected by the people around you. But inside, something feels off. The pressure is relentless, connections feel shallow, and you’re exhausted from holding everything together. You may have tried coaching or other support, but your personal life hasn’t kept pace with your professional achievements. You want more than surface fixes – you want clarity, balance, and the ability to live fully in both your work and personal life. That’s what you’re looking for: real mental fitness.

At The Pursuit Counseling, we use EMDR therapy to help you process and reframe distressing memories, making space for healing.
You’re responsible, capable, and keeping things moving. But it’s not easy. People don’t see the struggle you’re carrying beneath the surface. It’s more than just stress. It’s anxiety that comes from a painful past. Deep-seated issues like trauma, ADHD, addiction, or grief keep you from being fully present and enjoying your life. You want to be free and move forward, but these unresolved issues keep you from finding your purpose and drive. It’s exhausting when you try and try, only to walk away frustrated and even more hopeless. You need a real solution that gives you traction and momentum so you can heal, grow, and lead.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by betrayal, loss, or a relationship that no longer feels safe or steady? You may find yourself stuck in patterns that leave you anxious, disconnected, or reacting in ways you don’t fully understand. Many people I work with are navigating the impact of relational trauma, codependency, or early experiences that still shape how they connect today. Together, we’ll gently explore what’s underneath these patterns so you can begin to feel more grounded, secure, and in control of your life and relationships.

It stings a little when repair with the people you are closest to feels out of reach. You have mastered complex systems, put in significant hours mastering your craft, and shown everyone else exactly what it means to be a "team player." Yet, within your own home, there is a deafening silence. You have an innate desire to be seen wholly by your partner, but you’re stuck in exhausting cycles where misunderstandings pile up. I work with high stressed adults in the Atlanta Metro area & across the state of Alaska who are ready for intentional, results focused work in their relationships without undermining their current value systems.

I utilize evidence-based modalities like EMDR and Psychodynamic exploration, tailored to the unique person in front of me instead of following a manual.
True, sustainable change doesn’t come from a pre-packaged worksheet or a generic protocol. It comes from a deep, rigorous conversation and a relationship built on genuine trust. I bridge the gap between deep emotional exploration and the hard science of the brain. My work is designed for the the individual who wants to understand the "why" behind their patterns to effectively change the "how" of their life. By focusing on regulation over labels, we move away from shame and toward clarity. My goal is to help you understand exactly what is happening in your brain and body so you can regain your equilibrium.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
