Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Fayette County, GA
Alcohol. Tricky stuff. We go years and years and think we have it under control and before we know it we are over the cliff - absent a parachute. Drugs aren't much different... just faster and illegal. Sometimes our problems increase gradually until we turn around one day and think "done with this... not living this way anymore." Or it is that one nasty event you didn't even see coming: the accident and DUI, the separation-causing fight, the job loss. Embarrassment goes up; self-esteem goes down. The hole seems deep and hopeless. And still the drug, the drink keeps calling you back. Fear and bewilderment rule the day.

Relationships are the foundation of our lives. Whether with a partner, family member, friends or even ourselves, the way we communicate shapes our connections, deepens our bonds, and determines how we navigate challenges together. Yet, so many of us struggle to feel truly heard, understood, or valued in our relationships.
My passion lies in helping individuals and couples find clarity, confidence, and connection in their relationships. If you’ve ever felt like you’re speaking but not being heard, or like past relationship wounds are holding you back from experiencing deep, fulfilling love, you’re in the right place.

There are times in our lives when joy seems impossible to attain, sadness and worry seem to rule our lives, our relationships begin to fail and success seems impossible. However, there is a way back to joy. I believe that therapy should be a safe place to explore these emotions so that we can allow joy to flow back into our lives. My goal in therapy is to help you explore healthy coping skills. I want to hear your story and teach you to own your story. I want you to feel whole, redefine your sense of self and experience life in a more healthy and positive way. I work with individuals and families. I am licensed in GA and FL.

Finding Your Ase’ was founded in 2017 from the belief that healing is deeply personal and shaped by culture, relationships, and meaning. Through my work, I observed that many individuals desired therapeutic support that honored emotional health alongside cultural and spiritual values. This led me to develop an integrative approach informed by postmodern therapy and culturally grounded healing perspectives.

I am a therapist that will do the work with you. Many past clients would tell you that I am a calming presence for them, but not afraid to ask you the hard questions; and call you out on behaviors that are counterproductive to your goals.

Today's teens face different types of stressors than those to which we adults were exposed.
Because working with adolescents has been my life's work, I've also worked extensively with their parents. So, seeing adults for individual counseling brings me great fulfillment. I see adults with issues related to anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, PTSD, and women's issues including survivors of sexual abuse.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
