Welcome! My practice is open during early EVENING hours to accommodate after school schedules. I have been fortunate to have 18 years of counseling experience in both the school setting and the private sector, working with children ranging in ages 5-18, adults, and with families. While working with children and adolescents, I believe that the family dynamic is an extremely important part of the therapeutic process, and will often involve parents and siblings in therapy when it is helpful. I specialize in: anxiety disorders, depression, divorce, parenting support, self esteem, family dysfunction, and school related issues.

I help overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed out moms find more joy and balance in their lives. Parenting is hard. You feel anxious and worry seems to be taking over. You've lost yourself in this role and need to reconnect with yourself. You might be trying to figure out how to even "do this parenting thing" . You are tired, overwhelmed, and struggling to enjoy this journey and looking for support.

*Individuals, Couples, Adults, Teens & Children* We are shaped by our experiences and what we believe about them, but we can all be re-shaped by new information, awareness, and insight which helps to change how you view your past experiences, a "want-to" and consistent and deliberate effort. Whether we have experienced the pain of trauma, divorce, neglect, "wrong" choices, career challenges, relationship/marital issues or feelings of helplessness or hopelessness, it doesn't negate the PURPOSE for which you were created and the success which awaits you.

I specialize in divorce adjustment, and have specialized training in child custody evaluations and parent coordination.
I believe that solid, intimate relationships form the basis of a person's well-being and help us define who we are. Our earliest relationships provide the foundation for all others. We often choose partners based either on what we want to replicate or avoid in our families of origin. When problems develop in our closest relationships, we feel out of balance and symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, often occur. I help people understand and change patterns that they learned in old relationships that may be influencing their current ones.

Does your world feel upside down and overwhelming? Are you tired of people saying this is your "new normal?" What's taken over? Cancer, parenting , chronic illness, taking care of aging parents, becoming an empty nester? During the day you're distracted and irritable, and you can't remember the last time you slept soundly through the night. The anxiety and worry about what could happen is too loud only drowned out by regret. You spend your days caring for everyone but yourself and wondering what's next for you. Is there anything? Is there more? You stay small and silent, hiding your true feelings to protect those you love.

Your life seems to be going well, but deep inside you feel like you're just a great pretender. You’re doing your best to be a good parent , partner, daughter, co-worker, but no matter how hard you try, you end up feeling like you could be better. You’re struggling with feelings of doubt, grief, shame and irritability. When the day is over you deal with restless thoughts traveling a mile a minute, all to remind you of the things you have yet to get done. You can’t sleep and no matter how many times you try to organize your life, it just seems to always feel messy. One day you're a “go getter”, next day you struggle to get out of bed.

You deserve to feel worthy and deserving of care, to feel love and safety, and to experience and seek out enriching and supportive relationships. I want to help you get there. I work with women and mothers who find themselves overwhelmed with the demands of our current society, and my aim is to help clients reach their goals using a foundation of acceptance and personal empowerment. Our modern society is not set up to support the needs of women and mothers. Add in social media and the comparison game and many of us struggle to stay above water with our mental health.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
