Women in their 20s-40s are often bombarded with difficult life transitions such as adulting, relationship distress, quarter-life crisis, career pursuits, parenting, caregiving, and more. This can be a lot to manage! Social pressures and the changing roles of women in this age group require a focused, feminist, and knowledgable approach. It can be tricky searching for the right therapist, so I appreciate you being here in the first place. My approach is fine tuned, using radical genuineness, to help you learn how to manage these unique stressors while maintaining authenticity and calm.

I specialize working with high-achieving women plagued with the pressure to do more, do the right thing, people-please, and avoid being upset with those she loves the most. These women are leaders, compassionate, forgiving of others and admired by many. However she carries a secret, a revving internal engine that's says she has to keep going, don't stop, and set rigid rules that only apply to her. She's anxious about the future and fixated on the past. She finds it difficult to turn off her thinking. Painful histories, depression, anxiety and poor boundaries are normally the culprits with her strong, "I have it together" exterior.

Using mindfulness and body-based techniques, I help women access their inner power, develop self-trust, and build the life they desire.
You feel like no matter how hard you try, it never turns out right. You work hard, do you best to be healthy, and you always show up for those around you, yet you still feel like something is missing. You constantly doubt yourself and your decisions, and are beginning to feel hopeless, tired, and even angry. When will you start to feel good about yourself? If this sounds like you, know that you're not alone and it is possible to feel confident and comfortable with yourself. Together, we will explore your relationship with yourself and uncover how learned beliefs have prevented you from connecting with your authentic self.

Life happens to the best of us, and it can be very overwhelming in general. With women juggling more roles, there has been an overwhelming increase in pressure to push through when you may feel like you are operating on fumes. Whether you are amid a positive, exciting life event or more stressful experience, life transitions are inevitable. This is for the woman who may be functioning well on the outside but falling apart inside. You came here because maybe you are feeling disconnected from yourself & others, feeling chronically exhausted and questioning this version of you.

I have helped women begin the journey to No Contact or Low Contact.
Narcissistic Abuse Recovery, You thought you met your soul mate; found the perfect partner; that one special person in the universe. He was so attentive to every detail to please you. Idealized. Then in a blink of an eye you were devalued, or perhaps replaced and discarded multiple times, only to be ‘hoovered’ and lured back into an abuse cycle. Your sense of self has been eroded, diminished. We can help you find your way back to YOU, help you love yourself again. Help you heal.

An ideal client would be teen girls and women ages 15 to 62 who face issues surrounding Attachment and Abandonment, Anger, Aggression (Relational and Physical), Post Break-up recovery, Self-Acceptance, Racial (cultural acceptance), Self-Care, Self Esteem and Social Anxiety.
If there were no limits, what would you accomplish? Has anger or anxiety gotten in the way of your dreams? Are you having a difficult time recovering from or letting go of an unhealthy relationship? Is your past preventing you from moving forward? Just know that you have everything within you to overcome your past hurts. More importantly, it is never too late to start over. I use a holistic, non-judgmental, empowerment centered approach to help you face your fears and begin your journey towards self-acceptance and goal achievement.

We are especially passionate about our work with BIPOC, LBGTQ, women , and other marginalized groups, including adults and teens on the autism spectrum.
I began my practice, Briarpatch Solutions, in 2022 as a solo practice. Now in order to meet the growing demand for my services, I am expanding into a group practice. As such, I am now working toward my AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation and offer supervision to MFT interns and graduates seeking placement and/or hours. This allows us to offer affordable mental health care to persons who are without insurance. We are an inclusive practice with doors open to all people. Our philosophy is that every human being deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion and have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Women 's Studies (2002) from Agnes Scott College and a Master's of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University (2005).
All of us have experiences, feelings, and behaviors we cannot always explain, control, or understand about ourselves. I view therapy as a valuable opportunity to learn about our feelings, thoughts, behaviors, experiences, and develop healthier coping skills so that we can feel better about ourselves and interact more effectively in the world around us. In our work together I will offer you strategies to enhance your life through the use of mindfulness, behavioral, and cognitive techniques. My approach is direct, compassionate, empowering, and non-judgmental.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
