Life can be hard at times. I get it. Navigating our interpersonal relationships can be difficult. Whether it is challenges in our romantic relationships, dealing with our children’s behavior concerns, or establishing healthy boundaries with our friends and
family
– It can be hard. Struggles in relationships can lead to depression or anxiety, self-doubt, or lack of confidence. We might know that we want change, but be unsure how to achieve that change.

It can be easy to look like you've got it all together on the outside. Being the "strong" or "successful" friend,
family
member, and colleague. Getting stuck in the cycle of showing up and supporting those around you while neglecting or not attending to your own needs. It can be exhausting. Life is "good," but you desire more. You struggle with asking for help, and as a result, you suffer in silence. Together, we can create a space to become the best version of yourself. The first step is often the hardest, but I will be there to meet you halfway. If you're ready and willing to be helped, call me today for a free consultation.

As a therapist, I feel it is important to provide a non-judgmental space, where you can feel safe becoming vulnerable and processing any struggles you may be going through in life. I want to give you the support you need while also fostering independence by helping you recognize your strengths and teaching you skills to gain a sense of control and ability to cope. I have experience working with teens and adults with issues such as depression, suicidality, self-harm, trauma, anxiety, and
family
conflict. I have also worked closely with the Hispanic community and am able to provide therapy in Spanish.

With my training as a marriage and
family therapist
, I am able to assist couples in better understanding and communicating with one another. Feelings that couples experience, like not feeling good enough or alone, can have an impact on how they interact and communicate. Couples without the proper skills often struggle to effectively communicate and understand how even their own triggers can affect how they react to their partner. We explore underlying emotions together and how to best communicate them to your partner so you can feel heard and connected.

Hello! I am thankful you are reading my profile and have such respect for anyone who is brave enough to seek counseling. Whatever the presenting issue, we can develop a treatment plan together to meet your needs and change any thoughts, feelings or behaviors you want to alter in order to accomplish your goals and reach a level of functioning you are comfortable with in your daily life. 70% of therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist, so my objective is to create a nurturing and safe environment for you while I eventually gain your trust so it becomes the foundation of your counseling experience.

In psychotherapy I focus on relationship patterns, even if I am only seeing one member of the couple or
family
.
I believe that solid, intimate relationships form the basis of a person's well-being and help us define who we are. Our earliest relationships provide the foundation for all others. We often choose partners based either on what we want to replicate or avoid in our families of origin. When problems develop in our closest relationships, we feel out of balance and symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, often occur. I help people understand and change patterns that they learned in old relationships that may be influencing their current ones.

Having lived across 3 continents in my childhood and now belonging to a multiracial
family
, I am especially mindful to hold space for those who navigate culture and identity in daily life.
In life we often come to a point where what has been no longer works. We reach a point where we have to make changes for our wellbeing and/or happiness. We reach a crossroad, and must figure out which direction to take. In my work with clients, I aim to help them navigate this process. This includes exploring options that are available or could be forged. It includes exploring the impact of change on existing relationships. It includes making space for all the feelings, both good and difficult, that come with considering something new. It also includes finally attending to past pain/trauma that could be clouding the process now.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
