I am a clinical psychologist specializing in anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and disordered eating. My approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory. I believe that healing occurs through the establishment of a trusted therapeutic relationship , increased self-awareness, healthy emotional expression and meaningful relationships. In helping patients gain greater self understanding, I empower them to break away from the cycles that no longer serve them and make choices that enable them to lead more satisfying and meaningful lives.

I have over 20 years of experience, working with individuals, couples , and families in various settings.
Life can be hard at times. I get it. Navigating our interpersonal relationships can be difficult. Whether it is challenges in our romantic relationships, dealing with our children’s behavior concerns, or establishing healthy boundaries with our friends and family – It can be hard. Struggles in relationships can lead to depression or anxiety, self-doubt, or lack of confidence. We might know that we want change, but be unsure how to achieve that change.

With my training as a marriage and family therapist, I am able to assist couples in better understanding and communicating with one another. Feelings that couples experience, like not feeling good enough or alone, can have an impact on how they interact and communicate. Couples without the proper skills often struggle to effectively communicate and understand how even their own triggers can affect how they react to their partner . We explore underlying emotions together and how to best communicate them to your partner so you can feel heard and connected.

That's why the therapeutic relationship is so important.
I believe life is about relationships. Everything we do in life revolves around getting along with others. I have spent years in the corporate world helping people work well together. Now I want to continue this passion in a counseling setting. I have sat where I will ask you to sit. I don't believe I can be effective for you if I have not been a client too. I welcome everyone who wants to become more aware of why they do what they do. There are always reasons for unwanted behavior. I can help you unravel this puzzle. I can help with anxiety, depression, trauma, communication, marital and professional issues.

Anxiety and/or depression may not be new to you but dealing with medical and racial pandemics simultaneously just feels like too much. Connecting with your partner seems harder now than ever before, even though you are spending more time together. All of your regular coping skills and self-care tools just don't seem to be doing the job and you are looking for relief. Believe me, I get what you're going through.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
