As a child and adolescent therapist, I acknowledge the joys and the challenges we as parents often experience. By working with children and their parents as a family system, there is an increase in the overall efficacy of treatment. Often, many of our struggles as a family stem from our ability to fully understand each others' experiences and view points. Learning to communicate more effectively, regulate emotions, and be more mindful in our every day lives can drastically improve our personal and familial experiences.

Additionally, I offer consultation for families who are considering residential treatment placements for their child or adolescent , including wilderness therapy programs and therapeutic boarding schools.
I am only offering testing and evaluation services at this time. I have been licensed as a clinical psychologist in Georgia since 2013, and I specialize in psychological testing to help clarify mental health diagnoses and offer guidance for treatment. I also conduct psychoeducational testing to assess academic skills, potential learning disorders, and other conditions that impact learning, and I offer specific and empirically supported recommendations to help individuals meet their full cognitive and academic potential. Some evaluations can be completed via telehealth, depending on the needs.

Welcome! My practice is open during early EVENING hours to accommodate after school schedules. I have been fortunate to have 18 years of counseling experience in both the school setting and the private sector, working with children ranging in ages 5-18, adults, and with families. While working with children and adolescents, I believe that the family dynamic is an extremely important part of the therapeutic process, and will often involve parents and siblings in therapy when it is helpful. I specialize in: anxiety disorders, depression, divorce, parenting support, self esteem, family dysfunction, and school related issues.

I've been in practice for over 16 years and have worked extensively with adolescent boys and men.
It's not easy for men to ask for help. First, we have to admit that what we're doing isn't working and we can't fix it. So, I know it was difficult to begin the process of looking for the right therapist. "Who do I trust?" Will he understand the challenges I'm facing? With my relationship, my anxiety, my stress, my sexuality? With so many risks that come along with asking for help, no wonder men are substantially underserved in mental health - we aren't reaching out.

An ideal client would be teen girls and women ages 15 to 62 who face issues surrounding Attachment and Abandonment, Anger, Aggression (Relational and Physical), Post Break-up recovery, Self-Acceptance, Racial (cultural acceptance), Self-Care, Self Esteem and Social Anxiety.
If there were no limits, what would you accomplish? Has anger or anxiety gotten in the way of your dreams? Are you having a difficult time recovering from or letting go of an unhealthy relationship? Is your past preventing you from moving forward? Just know that you have everything within you to overcome your past hurts. More importantly, it is never too late to start over. I use a holistic, non-judgmental, empowerment centered approach to help you face your fears and begin your journey towards self-acceptance and goal achievement.

As a therapist, I feel it is important to provide a non-judgmental space, where you can feel safe becoming vulnerable and processing any struggles you may be going through in life. I want to give you the support you need while also fostering independence by helping you recognize your strengths and teaching you skills to gain a sense of control and ability to cope. I have experience working with teens and adults with issues such as depression, suicidality, self-harm, trauma, anxiety, and family conflict. I have also worked closely with the Hispanic community and am able to provide therapy in Spanish.

When it comes to relationships, love, sexuality, transitions, and identity struggles in life I’m your girl! I’m the type of therapist who is fun, outgoing, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a proud Air Force Veteran. Let’s just say when it comes to intersectionality… I have a lot of them. However, this is a good thing because my life experiences are exactly what will connect us and lead you to the life that you want to live. Therapy with me is a safe and inclusive space for all!

All of us have experiences, feelings, and behaviors we cannot always explain, control, or understand about ourselves. I view therapy as a valuable opportunity to learn about our feelings, thoughts, behaviors, experiences, and develop healthier coping skills so that we can feel better about ourselves and interact more effectively in the world around us. In our work together I will offer you strategies to enhance your life through the use of mindfulness, behavioral, and cognitive techniques. My approach is direct, compassionate, empowering, and non-judgmental.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
