I offer both group and individual therapy for people on a fertility journey, including infertility, as well as pregnancy, "fourth trimester," and parenting after infertility, for people identifying as heterosexual, LGBTQIA+, Single Mothers By Choice, and/or Single Fathers By Choice.
Are you on a fertility journey? Have you experienced obstacles along the way? Perhaps nothing is as disempowering as struggling with fertility. For many of us, issues with fertility mark the first time that we have wanted our bodies to do something that they seem not capable of doing. Struggles with fertility are traumatic experiences. Maybe we feel removed from friends with children, siblings with children, or parents who may not understand. Is it any wonder why we may be struggling?

I work with clients struggling with infertility, traumatic pregnancy and birth experiences, pregnancy loss, postpartum transitions, and challenges related to parenthood.
You can live a happier, more meaningful life. Right now, you may be depressed, unable to enjoy the things you used to, feeling sad, numb, or lost in darkness. Maybe anxiety is keeping you up at night, making it difficult to perform at work or feel comfortable in social settings. Perhaps you're struggling in your relationships, finding it hard to communicate, feel close, or find someone who really understands you. Or, you might feel stuck because the things and people you thought would or should make you happy just aren't.

My areas of expertise, experience, and interest: grief, ADHD and neurodivergence, men, teens, cancer, chronic illness, and caregiving, postpartum and perinatal mood disorders, medical trauma for healthcare providers, and those who work in the film industry.
There are many reasons why you might be seeking therapy at this very moment. It could be because of a major life event- a death, a cancer diagnosis, the end of a relationship, or trauma. It could be because of a lot of small things that have accumulated over time. It could be preventative or restorative. Or it could be just because. You might be therapy-curious, or wonder if you even need therapy. Whatever has brought you to this point, I believe that the most important part of a therapeutic relationship is connection. Our first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and see whether we both feel like it’s the right fit.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
