Are you struggling to tell others how you're feeling? Do you keep putting your head down, delving into work, only to look up and feel an isolating sadness? And even though you know (in theory) that it’s okay not to be okay, you just can’t seem to believe it yourself? I also was taught that it was my responsibility, and mine alone, to make myself feel better. But the hard truth is that while it takes strength to push through on your own, it also takes a special kind of strength to accept help.

Helping Little Kids With Big Feelings. Therapy for 2-6 year olds. Your kids is on the brink of being kicked out of daycare or preschool. The tantrums are out of control and nothing you have tried seems to help or, if it does help, it only helps for a day or two. Parenting shouldn't be this hard and you feel at a loss and frustrated. You may have reached out to therapists before but they are either full or won't work with kids that young. I can help. I have helped many families find calm and connection and have prevented many young kids from being kicked out of school.

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or no longer recognize this version of yourself. Perhaps you're feeling generally dissatisfied. Maybe you've tried "fixing" problems with limited results. Therapy is about understanding who you are and prioritizing what you actually need in the present with realistic expectations, while fostering growth in a meaningful and sustainable way. Stress, perceived failure, and/or hopelessness don't have to define you. Our lived experiences inform, not define. I will help you build upon your existing strengths and prioritize what is actually important to you to better participate in your life.

Finding a place where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and valued is hard. Maybe you're seeking a safe, understanding place to explore your identity or struggles with someone who "gets it." No matter what brings you here, I'm glad you're here. Together, we will create a space where your whole, authentic self is welcomed, affirmed, and valued. You won't encounter judgment or someone telling you who you "should" be in this space. Instead, I believe that you are the expert on your own life and that your experiences, relationships, and traumas have profoundly shaped you.

In my office I offer clients a warm and supportive therapeutic environment where issues can be successfully addressed and resolved. But it is only with the client's effort and desire to change that psychotherapy is most successuful. Through the years I have found that a direct approach in therapy is most valuable as it allows us both to target those beliefs and behaviors which may require change.

Can you remember the last time you didn’t feel stressed? Has unmanaged stress become normal? You feel depressed and have unrelenting anxiety. You feel stuck and wish the world would slow down. And your body is in a knot - stomach aches, muscle tension, stiff neck, tight jaw. You might be struggling from a lifelong illness, like cancer, going through a life changing event like divorce or job loss, or grieving the loss of a loved one, or don't know why you feel the way you do. You just know you don't like it - you want to feel better. Something has got to change.

The first question that a therapist usually asks is "What brings you in today?" This question in itself can be a point of tension. Maybe you don't know where to start, what to say, or what exactly brought you in today. I get it! I think when a person comes to someone else for guidance, that in itself is a very courageous act. Working with clients, I hope to help them better understand what their relationship to the problem is and how we can look at it from a more compassionate, flexible, and accurate vantage point. Co-collaborating with a client in an effort to encourage them to seek answers is one of my main roles as a helper.

Anxious, stuck, depressed, afraid. These words may be a few you use to describe your life, keeping you from living the way you want to live. I’m here to help you make sense of your struggles, build your strengths, and find peace in the midst of it all. My counseling practice is approachable and comfortable for people who have never seen a counselor before and those seeking a different therapy experience. Knowing where and how to begin might feel difficult for you, which is why we'll use the well-researched and evidence driven approach of ACT to guide us every step of the way.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
