Sometimes life gets hard and you need clarity to "recharge". I work with families and individuals to provide them with necessary tools to create an open environment of understanding. Through individual and family therapy , I assist clients in working through issues such as anxiety, self-esteem, anger management, educational goals and self-image. Although I am not able to see clients at the office, I am ALWAYS available using video (telehealth) services, which are on a secure sight.

As a marriage and family therapist who has been married for more than 27 years myself, I understand the challenges of intimacy.
Many of the couples I see come to therapy stuck in a vicious cycle that leaves both partners feeling isolated, frustrated, and heartbroken. Their best efforts to connect with and be heard by the other inadvertently lead to more arguments and distance. When relationships don't work, we hurt. So much of our happiness and well-being as individuals depends upon the health of our intimate relationships.

You may be considering therapy to address a specific problem that is affecting you or your family in a negative or confusing way; maybe you want to understand more about the way you react to things, or talk about difficult or painful experiences. I understand it can be hard to reach out and welcome any questions you have. I believe you are the expert of your own life, and I love exploring the rich knowledge people have about themselves. I am also interested in social and cultural influences, power, resources, and relationships on our shared human experience.

Are you wondering what's happened to the fun and friendship, to the love and affection you once felt for each other? Do you sometimes wonder if you might have married the wrong person? Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
