I also assist
couples
in improving their relationships by deepening their bond and redesigning how they relate.
Does the shadow of the past still influence how you show up in the world? Maybe you feel weak or crazy because you “can’t get over it”. Your friends and family don’t get it. There are times when things feel okay and life is pretty good but, then not so much. Maybe you find yourself feeling more on edge, are more reactive and emotional, or maybe you just feel not yourself? Your relationships are suffering. You know you are capable of more; personally, professionally, creatively, spiritually. Perhaps you have done therapy before and have some insight but your patterns haven't changed. You don't FEEL different but you'd like to.

I form a therapeutic
relationship
with my clients to help them deal with the issues they present. I draw on my years of experience and training to create the most effective treatment. Most of my clients experience relief within weeks of beginning therapy. Depending on the depth of the issues presented therapy can last a few months to a few years. Trust is the foundation and insight the main tool to create positive and long lasting change. I work with my clients to find what is best for them and support them in making the changes they want.

We are in a global crisis; we need new emotional/spiritual/physical resources, inner connections, and relationships. Psychotherapy can help you adjust to the "new normal" and to heal new and old wounds and fears. I work with individuals in life transitions, those who have experienced trauma/abuse, who want to live and age more mindfully, and/or who need to grieve losses. I can also help you learn to have more fulfilling relationships or leave relationships that are no longer working. When stressed, people sometimes find that they don't have a strong foundation. In a counseling
relationship
, you can learn to rebuild one.

As a
partner
in your growth, I acknowledge and accept that each person is unique, and has their own story.
You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or no longer recognize this version of yourself. Or, perhaps you're feeling generally dissatisfied. Maybe you've tried "fixing" problems with limited results. Therapy is about understanding who you are and what you need in the present, prioritizing needs with realistic expectations, and fostering growth in a meaningful and sustainable way. Stress, perceived failure, and/or hopelessness don't have to define you. Our lived experiences inform, they don't define. I will help you create space in your life to strengthen what's already there, and sustainably build the rest with purpose and intention.

This approach enables us to access unconscious material, which strengthens the
relationship
to the Self.
Our real journey in this life is interior; it is a matter of growth, deepening, and of an ever greater surrender to the creative action of love and grace in our hearts. Thomas Merton wrote this a half-century ago, but it is still appropriate today.
In our practice, we provide a safe, professional and holistic atmosphere, where people are supported in making profound changes and choices in their lives. I work collaboratively with both individuals and
couples
, using a plethora of techniques, including the Enneagram, dreams, myth, gestalt and EMDR.

It takes a great deal of courage to seek counseling when you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or other challenges in your life. Taking the step to pursue counseling reveals your strength to recognize that you matter. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Your thoughts and feelings have value. Counseling can help you explore your emotions in a safe space, help you change unwanted behaviors or develop new, healthier ones, reduce distress, and increase happiness. Doing the hard work of therapy, through the supportive
relationship
with a therapist, can help you feel more like your self again.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
