Let's be honest - it's hard out here. Existing in this world is heavy, and many of us struggle with anxiety, burnout, people-pleasing, and other painful emotions. Unfortunately, most of us experience traumatic events, childhoods, or relationships, leaving us feeling disconnected from our sense of self. Whatever is showing up for you now, I am here to listen, witness your story, and work with you to rebuild your sense of self-worth, self-trust, and safety. Together, we can safely explore and process your experiences and build a toolkit of skills that can help you move forward, set boundaries, and advocate for yourself.

If you’ve ever felt drained by people who only take, whispered to yourself, “I deserve better than this,” I see you. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or partner, the love you’ve given and the hurt it left behind matters. Even when you’ve questioned your worth, something inside you still hopes for care, safety, and a love that starts with yourself. That hope is real. It reminds you that protecting your heart, setting boundaries, and choosing yourself is not selfish.

I have several speciality areas, mostly centered around trauma - religious trauma (especially with LGBTQ+ folks); family systems, attachment & childhood wounding; and the pain and uncertainty of long-term and terminal illness, grief, loss and end-of-life issues (yourself or loved ones). I also see couples to help with communication issues, and explore how what we've learned in the past shows up in our current relationships. It's all about making meaning, especially for experiences that are painful and hard to move through.

Do you feel as though unhealthy coping skills are preventing you from becoming your "Best Self"? Sometimes in life, we face adverse situations in which we learn to cope using unhealthy skills. This may cause us to feel stuck and wondering why we can't do the things that we know, think, and feel would be helpful? Unhealthy coping behaviors may cause a person to feel stuck and wonder why they aren't progressing. Unfortunately, we continue to use these skills in ways that are no longer beneficial and eventually cause harm to our functioning. Therapy can be helpful in identifying, eliminating, and replacing these harmful behaviors.

My practice is founded on the belief that despite our life challenges, there is a silver lining behind each dark cloud that is waiting to be found. Whether the rainbow represents a diverse group of people coming together, the promise of a better life, or a pot of shining gold waiting at the end, one thing is true: rainbows are often a symbol of hope, and that is exactly what I hold for each person with whom I work: HOPE.

Hi there! Are you feeling lost, unanchored, or overwhelmed by a major life transition or loss? If you're feeling distant or unhappy, facing a relationship ending, a career change, retirement, or simply just to make meaning of change, we sound like a good fit! You might not know exactly what you need or have the language for how you’re feeling, and that’s okay. I’m here to help you organize your thoughts and explore what feels unclear. A lot of the time, finding the right language is half the battle, so I use metaphor a lot in session to relieve the pressure of finding the “perfect” words out of the gate.

Do you sometimes find yourself operating from outdated beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you? Such patterns can hold us back and make life seem futile and meaningless, leaving us feeling drained and defeated. They may stem from traumatic experiences, difficult life transitions and challenging relationships. However, we can heal and find new meaning and inspiration in life even after major setbacks. Therapy can help us rekindle hope, creativity and purpose. I help people update their belief systems and functioning so they can regain their autonomy and live more adaptive, fuller versions of themselves.

Are you the Family Hero? Starting therapy can be hard, particularly for those who are not accustomed to seeking support. Recognizing the need for help can feel daunting, as it might seem to challenge the roles you've long upheld—perhaps as the family's hero, the fixer, or the helper. There might be a fear that your vulnerabilities will become apparent in reaching out, questioning the identity you've consistently portrayed. However, it is crucial to embrace a pivotal truth: showing vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, but a profound act of bravery. Asking for help is a courageous step. Therapy is transformative self-discovery.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
