There are dozens of modalities and approaches to therapy. All are valid, and I will utilize aspects of many of them. But any approach needs to be tailored to the person in the room. How they best hear, see, and learn. I believe we can break issues down to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. All three need to be addressed, but I believe behaviors are the most powerful tool to change feelings and thoughts. This can be difficult, but living with issues causing you pain is just as difficult.

If you struggle to communicate effectively with your loved one(s), if your marriage needs to recover from an affair, if you have sexual concerns, are wanting to effectively deal with anxiety or depression or substance abuse, I can help. I am also trained to deal with other mental health concerns. My clients tell me that they like the way I work with them. I will work along with you to achieve the goals we establish. With a name like mine you know I had to be serious about my education and training to become a therapist.

My experiences with depression, anxiety, and self-medicating eventually became a substance use disorder—and ultimately led me to a deeper purpose in the counseling field.
I believe we must own our stories—otherwise, they end up owning us. In our work together, we’ll explore your past with curiosity and reframe it in a way that empowers rather than limits you. What once felt like a liability can become part of your strength. Therapy is a collaborative process, and the relationship is central to that healing.

We'll uncover the deeper reasons behind your substance use, reduce shame & build healthier coping strategies, helping you feel more grounded & connected to yourself.
You feel stuck. Maybe alcohol or other substances keep pulling you back, even though part of you wants something different. Or you love someone who’s struggling, and you’re worn down from carrying the worry, hope, and frustration all at once. You might feel overwhelmed by emotions, stuck in shame, or notice your relationships feeling tense or disconnected. You want relief and a sense of direction. You want a way forward that actually feels doable. You want to feel connected to yourself again.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
