Sarah Pratts
MS
Sarah believes that each client is the author of his or her own life experiences, and has the capability of maneuvering and pushing forward through circumstances in life. She recognizes it can be difficult and scary learning and implementing the tools needed to accomplish
fears
and worries. "It's like exercising a new muscle. It may hurt and get sore by working-out, but the muscle grows stronger the more effort you put into working on it." She has extensively researched the concept of empathy to help clients work through their trauma to develop secure attachment styles as well as understanding perspectives and co-dependency actions.

My primary focus has been on treatment for
anxiety
, depression, trauma, grief and loss, OCD, and substance abuse, typically utilizing either CBT or DBT based interventions, but I have worked with clients with a wide range of needs and am always seeking training in evidence-based practices that can help the people I work with.
At its best, therapy should be a partnership. I am dedicated to creating a therapeutic environment focused on your needs and goals. I believe anyone can benefit from therapy at some point in their lives and have worked with clients from a large range of life stages, from teenagers looking to find their path to elders seeking meaning and fulfillment in retirement.

I work with children, adolescents, and young adult dealing with a variety of presenting concerns including,
anxiety
disorders, ADHD, ASD, trauma, adoption, grief, depression, chronic illness, athletic performance, sensory processing disorders, ODD, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, life transitions, and emotional regulation.
Hi there! My name is Amberly Ellis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist. I approach counseling from an integrative, attachment-based, and interpersonal neurobiology lens, recognizing the link between behavior, the nervous system, and interpersonal connection. I believe the behaviors children and teens display are merely their way of communicating a need - a need to connect, a need to be known, a need to be heard, and a need for felt safety. It is my goal to not just help my clients “fix the problem,” but to help build understanding, connection, and a victorious mind.

The expectation often is that becoming a mother is the most joyous moment of a woman’s life, but on the inside motherhood can feel isolating and crazy. These inner thoughts can be difficult to manage alone. Sharing with others is risky – letting go of appearances – or fear of what others will think – or how they might react – all add to the isolation new parents often feel. During pregnancy and the baby’s first year,
anxiety
can run high with a thousand “what-if” worries. Handling worries and the new identity can be overwhelming when also facing sleep deprivation.

Depression,
anxiety
, anger, and grief are possibly the most diffiicult emotions that anyone can experience, but at some point, we all do. Confiding in someone that is understanding, nonjudgmental, and caring could prove pivotal in helping to process and overcome these emotions so that one can get back to the more enjoyable parts of life. My primary focus is for you to achieve a healthy balance. By utilizing a cognitive/behavioral approach, we will work together to challenge negative thoughts, unprocessed feelings and unwanted behaviors with a goal to gain the tools necessary to manage these emotions in a healthy way moving forward.

Experienced with helping adult and mature teens overcome feelings of anger, depression,
anxiety
, mood disorders, codependency issues, substance abuse issues, and relationship/marital issues, I primarily use a Cognitive Behavioral Approach, technique that values the relationship between how an individual thinks, feels, and behaves.
My greatest reward as a therapist has been helping individuals gain self-awareness and self-confidence to make changes and overcome life's challenges. I believe we can all benefit from having someone to talk to, who listens, without judgment. Taking the initial step to engage in therapy can be difficult. I attempt to provide a laid back and safe environment for clients to begin addressing issues preventing them from living the life they deserve. I pride myself on establishing rapport with my clients, at the onset of sessions, with a strong, collaborative, and therapeutic relationship, based on honesty and trust, to reach identified goals.

Many clients I see are dealing with issues such as Depression,
Anxiety
, Stress, Grief/Loss, Low self esteem/confidence, past/present abuse/trauma.
I use a practical common sense approach towards goal-oriented therapy. My focus is to establish a collaborative approach with clients, empowering each to acquire and implement techniques to reach their desired goals; enhance their overall functioning and well being. I primarily use a Cognitive Behavioral Treatment Model
however, at times I believe it best to use a combination of treatment methods to meet each individual's needs; helping clients discover what works best for their success. I look forward to working with you and assisting you on your journey to becoming your best self.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
