One day I woke up, ready to explode as I put my feet on the floor. I realized that I just couldn't take it anymore. I was tired of being tired. I was tired of just going through the motions each day. I felt alone and misunderstood. I realized that I needed to get some help with getting through this. I was letting everything that I have been holding in take me and my life over. Do you identify with this?

I've been serving communities for many years in various positions, and I have found that my ideal client is the one that is ready to work, even if they are not sure what needs to be done or even why. This client is open to collaborating with me in figuring out what about their right now is no longer working for them. Basically, my ideal client is the one that says "I want help for something different" & chooses me to be that helper!

I specialize in eating disorders, family of origin issues, pain & trauma recovery, including PTSD, and First Responders and Veterans.
If you are interested in making lasting changes in yourself and your relationships, I'd love to work with you. Coming alongside you and helping you heal from your deepest fears, pains, and memories are what I'm called to do. I use several techniques when they are warranted: EMDR, Gestalt Therapy, and help you identify your core beliefs. I think about your circumstances using four lenses: early attachments, families (original and current) and your role in them, your beliefs about yourself, and your spiritual development. As a Christian, I will meet you where you are, not push Jesus on you, and respect you and your journey.

My favorite book of all time is Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning. One of the many wonderful things he says in that book is "When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves." I see our work together as a team effort. Each client I see has his or her own story and unique perspective on that story, and I believe that within that story are the seeds to healing. My approach to helping my clients is in seeing each of my clients as a whole person who is struggling with something, whether it is anxiety, depression, relationships issues, substance abuse, communication, parenting, trauma, etc.

I work with first responders, veterans, and their families, as well as others navigating high-stress, high-stakes circumstances.
My approach is structured, practical, and tailored to real life. I use EMDR, parts work, and trauma-informed strategies to identify what is getting in the way, process difficult experiences, and build healthier ways of responding. The goal is not simply to talk about symptoms, but to help you function and feel better in the life you actually live.

I have a particular interest in working with first responders and others whose careers expose them to trauma, high stress and experiences that can be difficult to explain to people who have not experienced them.
You may look like you have it together, but inside you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, anxious, or trapped in your own thoughts. You replay conversations, struggle to quiet your mind at night, or carry experiences you rarely talk about. You've learned to keep functioning while bearing the weight of it all. As someone who has been on the other side of the badge and now serves as a licensed clinician, I understand what it means to bring difficult experiences home with you. When accustomed to being strong for everyone else, therapy can be where you finally take care of yourself. Let me help you quiet the spiral and reclaim your life.

We all experience times when we feel stuck in our lives. No matter how much we want to make positive changes within ourselves and relationships, it can sometimes feel that we are trying to move forward against a brick wall. Whether you are struggling with anxiety about the future, sadness or guilt about the past, or confusion on how to navigate the present, therapy should be a space where you are met with compassion, genuine curiosity, and support – exactly as you are and without judgment.

My ideal clients are adults who are tired of feeling stuck in the same patterns, overwhelmed by stress, weighed down by anxiety, disconnected in relationships, or constantly putting everyone else first. Many come to therapy feeling emotionally exhausted, uncertain, or frustrated that what they have been doing is no longer working. I help clients better understand themselves, identify what is keeping them stuck, strengthen coping skills, improve communication and boundaries, and create healthier ways to move forward with more clarity, confidence, and direction. First Responders Therapists
Why is mental health important for first responders?
As part of their work, first responders are often exposed to high levels of stress, trauma, and physical injury that can put them at a greater risk for serious mental health conditions than the general population. Conditions like PTSD, anxiety, substance use, and depression are more common in first responders, which can greatly reduce quality of life and lead to burnout, sleep disruption, and even suicidal thoughts. Therapy can offer an opportunity for first responders to process difficult on-the-job experiences and develop coping skills to better manage any mental health symptoms they may experience.

How can first responders get access to mental health support?
Many first responders can access therapy for free or at a very low cost through their employer, such as through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Workplaces may also offer or have referral recommendations for support groups, where first responders can meet with others in their profession to receive support. Individuals who would like to access mental health services outside of their employer may use their insurance benefits to see a therapist, which they can find by searching for therapists online or asking for recommendations from their primary care physician.

What type of therapy is best for first responders?
The best therapy approach depends on the mental health concerns of the client. Since many first responders struggle with trauma or PTSD, they may benefit from trauma-specific therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Exposure Therapy, or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Individuals with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or stress may alternatively benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches, which can help clients develop coping skills to manage distressing thoughts.

Can therapy for first responders help with trauma and PTSD?
Therapy can be highly effective in both treating and preventing trauma and PTSD in first responders. Typically, therapy for trauma and PTSD focuses on developing stress management skills and managing intrusive or unwanted thoughts. Therapists working with first responders often help clients strengthen their relationships and reduce harmful coping mechanisms, such as excessive substance use. Additionally, therapists assist first responders in establishing daily habits that support overall mental and physical health and enhance resilience to future stress, such as regular physical exercise, mindfulness practices, and improved eating habits.
