I believe in this country and the men and women who fight for it.
Life is hard, often times we feel like we have more than we can bare. That's where a helping hand and friendly face can be crucial and needed. I'd be honored to be that person. The story of our life is not defined by a the bad chapters. It is in the bad chapters that we grow the most. I would love to come along side of you and your loved ones to help you navigate these challenges. I feel most of our challenges in life could be solved by understanding our worldview and others worldview. This is a calling for me and I am honored to support you.

Hey guys! I work with older adolescents and millennial men on "life unpacking" and spiritual development with a relational, laid-back approach- it doesn't feel like the "therapy" you may be picturing! Often, we as men feel alone, discouraged, frustrated with relationships, and have a feeling that we're not living up to our potential.
With over a decade of experience as a therapist and professor of counseling psychology, I'm here to help take the stories you've collected, explore how they have shaped you into the person you are, and learn how God is using them to point you forward toward the person He ALREADY sees in you.

My practice is fairly evenly divided across individuals, couples and corporations. I address issues ranging from anxiety, depression, marital/relationship, parenting/family concerns to life transitions and executive/organizational development. I received my doctorate in 1986 and went on to serve as president of the Georgia Psychological Association from 1999-2000. I rely on a blend of cognitive behavioral and family systems therapy to help clients develop a practical, common sense path to change. The central premise is that in order to change your life, you must first understand how it used to work and why it doesn't anymore.

I am unable to accept new patients at this time. Are you at a point where you or a loved one has lost hope? With over 27 years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, marriages, and families, I've seen many find hope that was previously absent by using a short-term, targeted, and effective approach to counseling. Each therapist has unique strengths. Mine is working through tough problems other therapists don't prefer to treat by seeing clients in their homes rather than in an office. Most people are able to see a significant change within 6 months. Counseling should not last forever and neither should your struggles

Living is hard, and in this fast-paced world, so is having someone to confide in who helps you grow and become resilient. Life is inherently fraught with difficulties as each stage presents us with obstacles and new experiences that mold us into the versions of ourselves that we become. Along the way, we are held down by patterns of our past and expectations that don't do us justice. It is here where therapy is beneficial. I strive to provide education via collaborative exploration and narrative, bringing into awareness what our minds keep tucked away but which keeps holding us back.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
