Most of my child and teen clients look forward to therapy. I am highly successful in building a safe space and encouraging rewarding therapeutic experiences and positive change for children and teens. Does your child act unruly or have trouble managing small disappointments or changes without crying like the world has ended? Does your child or teen struggle with social skills, making poor choices, having low grades, or have low confidence? Have things turned to being unsafe in the home or school? Have you and your partner argued about how to handle your child? Turn that frown upside down!

My ideal client is someone navigating a challenging chapter of their life—a major life transition, trauma, anxiety, or relationship. They might feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure of next steps. Their goal is to build resilience, heal from past wounds, and discover tools to manage life’s transitions with confidence and strength, and most importantly self worth! I am open to seeing clients of all ages, backgrounds, and needs. I work weekly with moms navigating postpartum. Through my professional experience with foster care, the juvenile court system, and local schools, I enjoy connecting with and supporting children and teens.

Health is "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." To link behavioral risk factors to outcomes so that early interventions can begin, we (Populations and Interventions Teams Company, PITC) address correlated conditions. We strive to make client experiences less complicated but complete, considering the lack of transportation in our rural areas, using evidence-based public health practices and behavioral health practice modalities. We collaborate to achieve treatment goals that would result in improved health outcomes.

Individuals seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression or anxiety, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge. I have served in the helping profession for well over a decade. Years of work in the field has informed the belief that the helping profession is most effective through collaborative and eclectic approaches to treatment, whether in residential / acute, in-home, community outpatient or private practice mental health settings. Professional Counselors bring different dynamics, expertise, approaches, and strengths to collaborative treatment.

My passion is for helping children and their parents thrive through Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, or PCIT.
PCIT is a powerful therapeutic intervention for children ages 2-7 years old. Many parents feel judged for their child’s behavior, but I approach parents with empathy and focus on teaching effective strategies to improve parent’s confidence. Strategies focus on fostering healthier communication and strengthening the parent-child bond.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
