I use a cognitive approach when treating clients who suffer from moderate to severe mental health related issues including depression, PTSD, anxiety/panic disorders, phobias, OCD, marital distress, and others.
My career began in 1996 as a teacher, which evolved into social service work, and eventually led to becoming a high school guidance counselor. I have been a professional counselor since 2010. I enjoy helping people discover their strengths so they can overcome adversity and live optimally within the systems they must navigate.

I have worked with clients with a host of presenting problems, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting struggles, discovering postsecondary options, ADHD, and OCD.
I believe counseling is most effective when we work together towards solutions that make sense for you. My approach is eclectic. I love Cognitive Behavior Therapy combined with a humanistic approach focused on solutions. I hate "one size fits all" and believe each client is unique and has specific needs.

Many people are reluctant to seek help, therefore they will suffer in silence. Life can often be difficult, and overwhelming, and it seems that you will never get through that moment. This may be due to past or present trauma, divorce, anxiety, mental health issues, or other situations in life. You may need someone to guide you through those difficult moments to find the healing and peace you desire. The therapeutic interventions I use will assist you in finding those things. Through a trustworthy client and counselor relationship, we can discover how to find healing to have a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

There are many reasons to seek professional counseling. Yours might be feeling "stuck" or overwhelmed with depression. Perhaps, stress and anxiety have become constant companions. Maybe panic has been intruding too often. Has grief taken over your thoughts? Whatever your struggle, my purpose is to guide you towards inner peace utilizing a variety of emotional, and if desired, spiritual techniques.

Do you ever feel lost, alone, stressed and living in a life you never imagined for yourself? It's a normal human experience to get caught by the hard times in your life, but sometimes you get caught causes you pain and suffering to the point you don't know where to start to make it better. You start to feel like everyday is the same, and you hang on to a hope that life will get better somehow, but it doesn't change. When life begins to feel this way, you feel defeated, hopeless, and drained of energy. Sometimes when the world around you feels like its punishing you, you're forced to examine yourself at a deeper level.

Looking to resolve deep issues at the core of memory and experience in the felt embodied realm where memory reside? That is where we go. Utilizing body centered mindfulness based modalities we go to internal felt experience and the root of experience imprints, where we witness, process and unload the old burdens, and make space for the new, in order to free up the psyche and spirit to live the way you want to live.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
